Right out of the box I had a problem with the charging light not turning off after a week of charging. The instructions said the light would turn off when the unit was fully charged, it never turned off. Started the process of getting an exchange from Amazon and then got a question answered by the manufactured that said they were only kidding about the light turning off. They said that people like the blue light so it does not turn off any longer. Just charge the unit for 12 hours or so and unplug it. Of course, the blue light goes off when you unplug it, so instead of having an indicator of when the unit is charged you get to guess and the blue light still goes off when you unplug it. I bought this to replace a Waring Pro electric wine opener that worked for about a year and quit working. It's charging stand said that it was charged, but the motor no longer functioned. I disassembled the unit but could not fix it. However, it is pretty clear that the corkscrew for the Waring Pro will fit the Xtend opener leading me to believe all of these electric wine openers are made in the same factory in China and given different shells for sale. I will report back if I have any problems with the opener. So far, it works fine, but I am sure that I will get to test the Life Time Guarantee in the near future.

Still relatively new. It replaced another make that wore out. This says it will open 30 bottles without charging. Sorry, but I don't buy it, particularly with today's new, plastic corks, which are hard on any opener. That small complaint aside, the motor seems more powerful than my old unit and, when fully charged goes through even the plastic corks easily. When I first tried it I was about five bottles in on a full charge when it began slowing down noticeably. I just keep it in the charger now. Hopefully this won't create another problem. So far, so good. Will update if I run into any issues but it seems very reliable and well made so far.

I bought this as a gift for Christmas and then decided to keep it for myself. It takes practice with a couple of bottles to get it right. It tends to wobble at first as it goes in, but that might be part of my learning curve. My DH has no trouble using it. It opens bottles very quickly and then retracts from the cork.The only problem we had was with a very old (15 yr) bottle of wine where the cork was crumbling somewhat. This product didn't work with that bottle.It is a helpful gadget for people with or clumsy hands. Seems fine thus far. It has effortlessly opened 2 bottles of wine with much less hassle than the old, manual opener. The foil cutter is definitely more convenient than my pocket knife. It all works at least as well as others we have tried at a reasonable price. Shipping was the low point as it shipped in the retail box. In our case, the person that was destined to receive it as a gift also took delivery from the shipper, so there was no surprise at gift giving time. Presentation as a gift would also have been marred by the shipping labels stuck all over the retail box. Minor points, but annoying nonetheless.

One suggestion. I like the night light feature but you advise that once charged to unplug the charger, so no light. How about a charge switch on the side on the base. This way you can leave it plugged, enjoy the night light, and just switch off the charging function when not needed. Other than that I think it's great.

This is my 3rd electric Wine Bottle Opener (all different brands). I have been using this for 4 months now and it still has plenty of power to remove corks from the bottles. The previous two openers became unusable after about 1 year (due to lack of power). This opener seems to open bottles with more ease than the previous ones, thus I predict it to go well beyond the 1 year mark. All three openers have gotten about the same work load rate.

It would get five stars, but it often doesn't seem to handle synthetic corks very well. It'll get them out of the bottle easily enough, but they become jammed inside of the cylinder, and I've had to dig them out with other utensils. Given that more winemakers seem to be abandoning traditional cork (because it isn't airtight) and using synthetic, this could become more of a problem.However, even knowing that limitation, I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. It's just too much fun to use.
