You need to read this if you play dobro
Came in great condition for the price and age. This thing is ancient! It even comes with a record i have no idea how to use. It's thin like a peice of paper so if you where to use it, I don't think it'd last long. Currently looking for a more updated format of the playbacks for this book. Can't really say anything in this intructional is outdated because this is for a traditional instrument and nothing has really been added the play style.Everything is in tab form, some of the licks have the actual music notes along side the tabs. They took the time to explain the history and the role you will play in a band. I thought that was VERY informative. This book isn't all you need to learn this instrument but it'd darn close.

Good introduction - some oddities
Overall, this is a strong book for beginners that thoroughly covers just about every dobro technique and style current. One of the things I liked about it is that all of its material is real-world - there's no cheesy "bile 'em cabbage down" numbers. One major fallback is that the CD does not contain audio for the many examples in the book, but rather a faux bluegrass concert featuring '"The Archduke of the Dobro." This is a bit bizarre, and more importantly, extremely unhelpful.

Back in 1977 I was very thankful for it and still am
If you want the complete sound track for all tunes and examples in the book, visitStacy Phillips web page and you can buy an mp3 download. This book is great for what it is, an introduction to Dobro styles and techniques. I bought it back in the 1970's and still refer to it from time to time. Be prepared to spend some time (months ) with it to get it down pat. Back in 1977 I was very thankful for it and still am.

The dobro book
It is a very good instructional book, however I wanted a little more basic information, so I ordered some other books to review.

A must for reso-guitar players
Stacy Phillips is a great musicician and his book is a great addition to any reso-guitar library. Good songs to lear as you start exploring the instrument.
