Original and Believable
Good casting for the 3 main roles. Very believable and seemingly realistic as compared to the apparent path of today's society. Samuel L. Jackson is outstanding in anything and everything he does.

Good action, attractive lead, and S. Jackson
When feminists try to make a "girl power" or "strong girl" movie (examples include the terrible Terminator Dark Fate, Harley Quinn solo movie, Charlies Angels reboot, etc) they need to watch movies like THIS, Kite. The "strong", "kick ass" female lead isn't perfect, isn't fighting completely inept enemies, and isn't invulnerable. She doesn't always win. That makes her relatable. Men or women, we face challenges in life and we don't win every time. We take our lumps and hopefully learn a lesson in the process that makes us stronger. Life is pretty big and none of us have all the answers. Super-duper characters without flaws are boring and unrelatable. In this film, the heroine isn't infallible and Samuel Jackson does a good job with his role. If you like action and don't like flat, boring super characters this could be an entertaining watch. Be advised, it does contain gratuitous violence, gore, sexual themes, and an often scantily clad female lead. However all of that does fit the fiction of the film. I don't read anime and had no prior exposure to this story or characters. YMMV if you're a fan of the anime.

*Ever tweezed brains out of a ceiling tile?* Vengence is for Riot Grrrlz
The tweezer line's a standout in a career full of standout lines for the Film God known as Samuel L. Jackson. For that surreal line alone, renting KITE was WORTH IT!KITE is *not* a meticulously constructed, perfect Ridley Scott futuristic classic, but it does close in on some Luc Besson District X-style, post-urban collapse action film goodness.Even better: it's all about a hot, powerful, grrrl who kicks a** where a** most needs kicking. But there's more. Want closeup, realistic lo-fi martial arts action? Kicks that don't require a silly 5-yard radius to get it done? Riot Grrrl Revenge, saving many innocents? Clubkid wig swaps? Believeable building to building jumps by an understated Hero Guy? Then you'll have nearly an hour of good enough action movie pleasurefulness, like I did.I want to shout it out up front: KITE belongs to the incredible India Eisley. Hope we get to see her again soon. What I was happy to discover is an ovaries-to-the-wall Riot Grrrl Revenge film, not as visually exquisite as Quentin Tarrentino's KILL BILL madness, and not as well funded, either. But KITE is plenty watchable, with its believable architecture-jumping (the French call it *parcours*), labyrinthine chases and righteous beat downs in a collapsed urban centre that looks spookily like certain parts of LA, Paris, London and Juarez...plus weird freakouts that might be mood management drug ODs or mind control. All the above kept KITE intensely watchable for me. And the violence is logical; most of it's well deserved.Sometimes, I have to admit it to myself: it's good to see retribution, given the real world outside the movies is a place where too many rapists, murderers, ganglords, and child abusers never see jail, or any hint of justice. This movie is awash in double crosses that drive the beatdowns of slimeball human traffickers by Ms. Eisley's kick-boxing, exploding-bullet, ultra-medicated Sorwo [spelling? was it supposed to mean *sorrow*?] and her sometimes partner, Cute Parcours Jumping Guy.Such a great watch for the first 3/4 of the way. Then quality does a parcours jump of its own the last 15 or so minutes into a back alley called The Street of Unfortunate Film Endings. And so it was that those last 15 minutes felt like every single thing was being hammered so people stoned out of their minds to the drooling state in theatres or at home would grasp multiple repetitions of Samuel Jackson's character explaining it all...all over again. Still, the first 3/4 made watching more than worthwhile. One more thing to like: SOUNDTRACK. Until the bad jokey closing tune, KITE's soundtrack more than transcended its budget. True-to-scene mashups of house, techno, rap and old-school electronica made new that I don't even know the names for. It's good to be surprised by the Future of this music.

Quite Excellent!
I was surprised with this movie! I originally bough it because it was described as a movie that was made in a very Anime-like style, and it has Samuel L. Jackson - which brought my opinion of the movie up pretty high. I am glad I bought it! This movie is a very interesting and the artistic style is really neat! I thoroughly enjoyed the movie! It is full of action and is very entertaining and the story itself kept my attention all the way through the end! This is definitely one of those lesser known movies that is a great one to watch!

A very B movie experience starring Samuel L Jackson ...what?!
This movie oozes cheap, uninspired B movie flair, something you'd find in the bargain bin depths of Netflix. The camera work, lighting, film quality, audio mixing, acting, music, action choreography, even the foley work (which is laughable at times), are all notably substandard, almost Youtube fan film esque. The semi-dystopian dilapidated cityscape setting, doesn't ever establish a cohesive identity or attempt to even allude to even the slightest bit of world building, and just feels like the same ten city blocks were used to film the entire movie. And yet it costars an acting master class A lister like Samuel L Jackson, who's limited screen time, stands out like a bottle of Chardonnay in a vending machine full of RC cola. It makes no sense. I guess he was desperate for a quick pay day? Someone called in a huge favor? He lost a bet? who knows. Either way, it just feels off having him in it.The plot utilizes the quintessential, pretty young female assassin/tragic victim out for revenge template that has been done , I'd imagine probably hundreds of times before. Really nothing special here at all. I could spoil the entire movie scene by scene, and it would seem so generic, one might think I'd made it all up on the fly , or copied another movie they'd seen.To the film's credit, it does go in a slightly unique direction in regards to the state of the world. Its depiction of a society where the systematic kidnapping and sex slavery of underage girls and young women is the norm, can be quite grim. But due to the aforementioned across the board mediocrity, the grittiness of it all is never taken advantage of to further the viewing experience. And when it does , it gets undermined by sheer silliness: parkouring/free running Lord of the Flies boys anyone? This one can be skipped. There are plenty of better ( or less bad) movies along the same vein to spend your time and money on.Sorry Samuel L. You still my boy though.

Takes a different route than the anime yet still a good movie.
Changes things up from the anime. Not necessarily a bad thing. Good story. Great tension. Great action. In depth plot.

"..GREAT FUN, GEM OF A MOVIE.."
I was very surprised by this movie and loved every second, its a smaller budget movie yes and not as grand as it could of been but its still damn well fun and entertaining and a lot of effort has gone into making it as cool as possible with a fantastic cast and a pretty decent well paced story, Basically we are set in a future where there has been a post financial collapse and society has gone to hell and young children especially girls are being taken by flesh cartels to be sold to foreign clients, but one young 18 year old girl Sawa is different, she is an assassin' she one by one takes down the cartels to get to Mr big so she can act out a personal revenge against the death of her parents, but as the story goes on we find out there is more than meets the eye! The cast is great, India Eisley plays such a great lead, she's extremely sexy and plays a very cool assassin, very hitgirl style, and Sam Jackson is cool as usual doing his thing, he has a larger role than expected too and is in a lot of the movie! The overall style of the movie is great for the budget and the costumes and the music too are all good, this is a great fun movie that's really worth checking out and certainly worth more than one viewing! The movie is based on an Anime 50minute series which you don't really have to see to enjoy this! Some scenes are similar to scenes in the anime, the movie certainly keeps all the cool bloody violence!Blu-ray has great picture quality.Region B, 86mins, 2014.No special features which is a shame! A behind the scenes would have been cool.
