ASM G-3 Protein Skimmer w/ Sedra 5000 Pump

I got a ASM G3 Back in 2004 and hooked it up to my reef tank. It pulls out a crap load of stuff when my tank is highly stocked. In that 15 years I have replaced the Sedra impeller once due to the rotors case swelling ($49 part).The black foam that goes around the exhaust pipe will go disintegrate almost every year. I eventually stopped buying new ones for ($6) and just bought a small roll of reef safe foam and cut off a piece annually and secured it around the tube with three zip ties.I have no idea how good the G3 is in removing skimate compared to an AquaMaxx or the hundreds of other newer skimmers but I can say that it by visual comparison it has a larger foam area, the bubbles look just as fine and it pulls out very thick dry skim. It has worked perfectly for me and only requires about once a year major cleaning by running it in a bucket of water with half a gallon of vinegar for 8 hours.The plastic on this thing is thick and tough and the motor is very reliable. The unit is like a Russian made product, it is designed like a tank but is not very fancy. If your looking for a reliable skimmer that has been out in the field for 20 years and is well proven then this is a good choice.

I love mine. I went from a Pro Clear aquatics skimmer to this one, and have been nothing but happy. One I got it dialed in, it is producing some great skimmate.
