The good news is that I now have a rock-solid deck with few surface screws. The bad is that it is incredibly time intensive if you have real wood decking without a factory groove. Cutting each board to length, using a biscuit joiner to cut all the slots, and then installing burned up a lot of time. All because I wanted the narrowest joint (3/32") that any system allows. It also takes some time to get used to how much to tighten the screws. Too much and the next board won't fit in the slot. The black plates aren't noticeable with the narrow joint, but could be with the wider joints. Actual install using the jig and screws was fairly easy, if slow.

Have installed ipe decks over the years and these latest fasteners work the best.They are somewhat time consuming but worth the extra effort
