Great paint at a good price
Gamblin paints are my go-to oils. I have used a lot of brands in the past 30 years but these days almost all the oils I'm buying are Gamblin. Why?The paint texture is very consistent, thick and buttery. They carry a heavy pigment load, I often thin them down to glazes and the colors are still strong and true.Their selection of colors and mediums is hard to beat.I have everything in my studio from the $3 tubes of oil from the craft store, to $100 tubes of Williamsburg oils and many in-between... But 9 times out of ten when I open a tube of oil paint, it's a tube of Gamblin paint. This is a great starter set, the colors included will allow you to easily mix any other color. If you price out the individual tubes you will end up paying substantially more. The box being a gessoed panel is a nice touch and adds even more to the value of this set. While most of my other paints sit idly by, I had to buy a second one of these to replenish the colors I was using up.

Glad I bought this set
I was a bit nervous because of some reviews other customers wrote saying they'd received damaged or poorly packaged sets. My set arrived in perfect condition. The packaging was appropriate. Also, I didn't notice that the paints came nicely arranged inside of a pre- primed wood panel until after placing the order.Very nice, especially considering the average price point for these higher quality oil colors. Not the cheapest but the quality of this paint is worth it for my current budget. Good palette selection, too. (I made sure to add a bottle of Gamblin refined linseed oil as well.)

Great Introductory Oil Set
I love Gamblin paints and this is a great introductory set for the price. If I were to make up my own set I would have put in phthalo blue though instead of phthalo green for a greater ability to mix colors. The tubes are regular size so you may want to buy a big tube of white somewhere, Permalba white will mix with these paints fine. Also if I were making up a set, I would include a tube of Galkyd or Gamblin solvent free gel which is awesome -- it is a great medium and makes the colors dry a lot faster. If you are impatient with the slow drying time of oils and you want a safer alternative to turps, you should definitely get a tube.Gamblin oils are high quality so it is hard to go wrong with any of their sets, paints, or mediums. They work quite well with Winsor & Newton professional and Winton oils too. The yellow and red are cadmium colors which means you should exercise caution with them for your health but on the other hand, they are the real colors, not just hues, so they would be quite expensive to buy separately.

Great oil paints
It's the first time I used Gamblin Artist Oil Colors and I really liked using these paints. Cadmium yellow and red are so vibrant, in general the pigments are so strong. The paint is neither so dry nor oily. I use it with a little bit of linseed oil and it's very easy to paint with this consistency. The package was so great and it arrived faster than I expected. Very happy with my purchase overall.

No lumps of unground pigment!
I have been comparing all the paint brands that I have been able to lay my hands on. The Gamblin brand is by far the best I have been able to find thus far. The reason is as follows: You receive far more pigment in these tubes and far less medium i.e. oil. As such this paint is far more economical to use. The relative hue comparison is on a par with all the rest. In other brands you might also find that the pigments have not been ground down far enough - especially in the raw umber. However you can rest assured that with the Gamblin series you will not find larger lumps of unground pigment. This can be extremely irritating when you are busy with a hyperrealistic painting. Love the product.
