Real Howard Spitz

I have always been a fan of Kelsey Grammer and when this movie was first release on television I had no idea that it even existed. I just happened to come across it some years ago on one channel or another and started watching. Before I knew it I feel in love with this movie. It is whimsical and smart, and without giving away any points of the movie it does show what writers everywhere sometimes have to do to 'do' what they love. I think anyone with a fun spirit and is a child at heart will love this movie - as Kelsey Grammer (Howard Spitz) learned that he is also a child at heart even though he doesn't really like children. Enjoy!

Great movie! Kelsey Grammer dies a wonderful job of playing the part of a stiff, curmudgeon-y author of detective books who cant seem to get any more of his books published. He's down, but sees the potential of making lots of money in writing children's books. He meets an adorable, precocious little girl who helps him with some background info about kids and starts to bring out his soft side. Hijinks of course ensue, and the predictable romantic involvement with the little girl's mother...but still a great family movie.

I was pretty surprised that this was such a good movie. I was thinking from the photo that this was for kids, but actually, as an adult I felt I had been entertained and given an above average movie. I am college educated and do think, so know that it was a well done, low key and totally unstressful movie that recommend to folks looking for a laugh and a few twists! Ya...at the end, I thought "I kinda thought that would happen"....but I figure-so what!

This was a low expectations movie that turned out to be pretty good. Often in this kind of comedy the writer/director lays it on to thick and what might have been worth a laugh only gets a grown. However, they succeed in making some of the less believable plot elements seem like they could happen. Good acting, good, but predictable, plot.

It would be hard to write a more hokey script. Only truly bovine minds could pen such stuff--or act in them. Still, the ugly little girl is cute in her way and there's a happy ending for all involved. 2 1/2 stars.

My spouse watched the first 10 minutes or so and lost interest. I watched it to the end with several fast forwards. Never watched much of Kelsey G. but he's ok. Kind of a waste of time for me.

A lovely story. The child actress is good and her feisty girl child character is well done. The title character is just the right mix of a soft hearted man with a crusty spikes shell. Good family movie.

If ever there was a feel good family movie this is it. I started watching the movie with a question mark on my forehead, but when the movie was over the question mark had been replaced with a big smile. Samantha and Howard had real chemistry, chemistry provided by the two actors playing those parts.

There are certain products like DVDs, CDs and fiction that are only worth the allocated number of stars if you like the story, the artistes or the music. But this is a great family film that adults can enjoy the humour too.

An enjoyable story ... Good quality dvd.
