Great upgrade to the jeep.
This was a great upgrade. I made my own roofrack that bolts to the backbone system. And the braces inside that transfer the weight to the body are nice to hang stuff from and use them to secure camping gear. I used butyl to seal the holes in the hardtop and haven't had any leaks.

Awesome product.
Fantastic product. Very well-designed. Not too difficult to install. If you're looking for a strong sleep design, this is what you need.

Missed it by that much....
I bought the Rhino-Rack that was supposed to be for my 2016 Jeep Wrangler 4dr. And the instructions were fantastic instructions if you have the exact model of Mopar hard top that the Rhino company built this for. Unfortunately, not all Mopar hard tops are created the same. This frame was created for a Mopar top that has a rear window that has around a 20 degree slant on the rear window from vertical. My hard top is completely vertical and a genuine Mopar part. On its own, the jeep hard top does not support weight and you must find a way to transfer your load on the roof to the frame of the jeep. This is the only one that I could find that would provide the structural support necessary and did not require you to remove the hard top. My modifications: Two of the three bolt holes on the base frame lined up and I had to drill the third hole. I had to grind a small section of the rear end of the frame to make it fit in the space and I had to use sections of Unistrut to make up the 20 mm difference between the frame of the jeep and the bottom of the Rhino Rack structure. The forward mount is normally supported by the roll bar, but I would have had to remove the hard top to access that part of the frame. Of course none of the frame bolts were long enough and I installed black stainless versions. Because I was doing this by myself, removing the top was not an option. Instead I mounted the forward mound on the roll bar around 6" to the rear (of the position designated in the instructions) where I had access. The forward mount would also not fit as designed in the gutter of the roof over the doors. Since it was not structural and only used for positioning, I cut the bracket above the logo on both forward mounts and drilled the mounting holes for the front bracket from the inside of the jeep after attaching the bracket to the roll bar. In my redesign, every mount is tied into the frame of the jeep and the forward mounts are attached to the roll bar. I repainted everything before reassembling and it looks good. I have transported my boat around several times with no issues and it is locked down tight. This took 3 days to complete and if I did not have a rather complete metal shop; it would not have been possible. If you have a slanted rear window on your Mopar hard top, this is extremely well designed and will likely work out of the box. However I did not. Once I started making modifications, I realized returning the unit was not an option and I had to make it work. It suits my purposes perfectly but unless you have a metal shop and a whole lot of patience, you probably should not purchase this item.

Scary to Install but well worth it
The system is excellent on fit. Just make sure you purchase the correct model for your vehicle. Installation instructions i give 2 out of 10. Very cartoonish and does can be confusing. What I did like was the parts layout board. Once unpackaged, you layout all the parts and pieces on to a board and just select the part you will be working on. Although it would be a lot more helpful is the parts were stamped with the corresponding layout board. Installation is scary as you will be drilling a total of 12 holes into the Jeep fiberglass top. I installed the back-bone system while my top was on the jeep but i think it would be easier to install if you take the top off for drilling and securing the bolts. Sort of need to contorque yourself and the roll bar cage make it difficult to install the bolts and washers (i've dropped a few and lost the washers). The other item which Rhino-Rack needs to change is after drilling the holes and before installing the hardware, Rhino-Rack says to put butyl mastic around the holes for water tightness. That stuff makes a mesh and can get onto places you don't want. I used FlexSeal which came in a small push bottle. This way you are not buying a tube of butyl and caulk gun for such a small amount you would need. Rhino-Rack should list acceptable sealants (doesn't need to be by manufacturer name). There are a few videos on the internet on how to install the back-bone system and highly recommend you watch those before and while you are performing the install.

I can't say enough how much I love my Rhino Rack setup. It's a bit on the pricey side, but 100% worth the investment. You won't be disappointed in both the build quality and the fit and finish on your vehicle. For my 21 Wrangler, I wanted something trimlined so nothing gets caught up in the trails as I live in Vancouver, Canada. The trails are thin and things get caught up all the time, let alone getting the BC Pinstripes. This keeps your gear inside the lines of your Jeep and is super tough. Highly recommend!
