I enjoyed this!
I really loved reading about the people of this area, as my mom is from Summers County , West Virginia also! The author did a good job of bringing the times and lives of the people she wrote about to my minds eye. Perhaps that was because I have already had a sense of them from my mother who would be of the same age as the author if she were still alive. The second half of the book started to feel a little disappointing at the beginning of it when she spoke of each family and there were no more "stories" being told, but I soon adjusted to the different tone of the story and enjoyed that too. I love hearing the names of the people back in those times and that area.

Loved the book
Jenny, Loved the book. I spent all Saturday evening being a child again. I have been homesick to come back home for a visit and it feels like I did just that. I was surprised to find out all those Mr and Mrs had first names also. I thought your house was a castle and longed to go through it each time I passed. Mom called you Gentle Lee and I was an adult before I found out it was Jenny Lee. She really loved you. Keep writing. Love Mae Hamm Hurt.

The book let's the readers know what it was like to grow up poor in rural West Virginia.
Well written and informative. My family was from that particular area, with stories and pictures of them.
