In April 1986, an explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics becomes one of the world's worst man-made catastrophes. Review: Well reported - Well worth watching. Can't say I enjoyed it all, some special effects, especially hospital patients dying is too realistic. But it really brings home what did happen and it's consequences. From the initial complacency and subsequent denial, to the massive efforts to move every one and contain the radiation Review: Fantastic historical story of events - I thought this was a brilliant insight into the events leading up to, during and after such a disaster they thought could never happen

Television at It's Finest.
As an avid television watcher of many years I have seen many great television series. I have no hesitation that this programme is one of the finest that I have ever had the privilege to watch. True the subject matter is serious. As serious as Cancer and I say that phrase from the view point who has witnessed his wife dying from that terrible scurge. Many people sneer at the cover up of the Russians failing to realise that this disaster brought out the best of humanity in the bravery of the men and women who fought the disaster. Chernobyl does all that it conveys the simple bravery, courage and self sacrifice of the Russian people, the fire fighters. Nurses, soldiers and leaders alongside the pathetic attempts of the politicians to cover up the uncoverable. (sic) The series slowly and quite beautifully conveys all the bravery tragedy and stupidity of the disaster, To say this is magnificent television is an understatement. The scenes of bravery unfold slowly and surely and the viewer is left mouth open at the bravery of the people. There are far too many scenes to convey the total brilliance but tiny scenes stand out. The scene where the Minster of Coal supported by two Machine armed guards ,orders nearby miners to report to Chenobyl. They bravely tell him to tell them why and when he gives it to them straight they volunteer one by one each patting their coal covered hands on his pale blue suit with the rejoiner that now he looks like a Minister for Coal. The personal touches and humanity is conveyed by the wife of a fire fighter hugging her dying husband knowing that just a touch of him is lethal. The honesty and stoicism of the miners who have to dig a 12m deep tunnel beneath the core to install a heart exchanger. The cast is magnificent and a credit to the largely British cast led by the magnificent Jared Harris. If this was fiction you would not believe the plot. We all know the outcome of Chernobyl or at least we think we do. This terrific series does just that. I salute the producers and the production company..

If You Have Not Seen This... I Envy You
Chernobyl is a wonderful drama with excellent performances form the cast. It is extremely well written and there is one scene that is a masterclass in how to explain a very complicated topic. Watch it!
