Helpful book, but contains some errors
The book is helping me learn some new things and fill in gaps in my knowledge. It also give you access to an online test bank. However, there are a few commands in the book which don't work quite the same between different distributions of Linux, such as Ubuntu. It would be helpful to have that pointed out. Also, I have come across at least one error in a review quiz. In the 5th edition of the book, chapter 4, review question 13. It asks which commands you can use to change a file named engame.txt with a current permission string of rwxrw-r-- to rw-rw-r--. It lists two answers as being correct. One of the "correct" answers, D, is actually incorrect. It should be chmod 664 instead of 554.

Good book, but I think there are errors.
Although the majority of this information is helpful and easy to understand, I am wondering if it has some errors. Since it's a study guide, teaching incorrect information is not ideal, so I would recommend finding another study option as well. For example, in one of the practice tests, the book says the -b option for the wc command counts bytes. HOWEVER, in my Linux class and everywhere I have looked on the internet, it is saying it is the -c option. This is very confusing, and I wasted a bunch of study time trying to get an answer to this simple question.

Not enough for the exam
Not enough to pass the exam. I read this book and made 79 pages of handwritten notes. However, I was shocked at the amount of content on the exam that is not covered at all in this book. If you are studying for the exam, I would look elsewhere. If you are new to Linux and just want to learn about the OS, this is not a bad book to learn from.

I purchased the 4th edition but found it lacking
I purchased the fourth edition. Always passed the sections 80+ percent every time. After trying a few practice exams I found the book to be lacking. It covers topics in less detail than is needed and seems to miss some things all together. I also reviewed a few concepts I thought I knew well and found the way it was presented was somewhere between confusing and just wrong. The thing about runlevels varying by distribution just did not seem to pan out after checking multiple sources. Also the section on SETGID focused on execution and completely glossed over implications for permissions. I'm sure the new edition removed some of the old stuff like upstart, sysVinit and legacy grub but I doubt it is still enough. Unfortunately most of what I did get correctly on my practice exams was from my own personal experience.

very poor
There are so many topics to be found on real LPIC exam that this book doesn't cover so the book CAN NOT be positioned as a certification study guide. Very poor coverage, no practice , just a set of basic theory concepts.

A big help
The book is very well written, and despite being a long-term Linux user, I still learnt a lot from this book. Highly recommend.
