Wow!
The quality of this petty knife is amazing. The design and elegance of the blade is I noticed first. The Damascus steel provides a beauty to the blade. There are no loose layers in the blade at all, and it’s clearly been finished to the highest possible standards. Though, I expected no less having been made in Japan. Some have noted that the handle is small in their reviews. I find the handle to be perfect for my hand. Like the blade, the wood has been shaped and finished to the highest standard. This blade is extremely sharp and has cut through everything I’ve needed to cut. I have experienced no filling of the blade since I first received it. I highly recommend this blade to anyone looking at these type of petty knives.

Sharp, light, easy to handle, pleasure to use
Size and sharpness of the blade makes for deft handling, but sharpness also requires care and attention, which is another positive attribute.

Thin blade
The knife is sharp but the blade is thin and a little too flimsy. Doubt it will hold up to heavy use.

Incredible sharpness
Sharp sharp sharp right out the box. beautiful simple japanese packaging, im fact i immediately sent a Kai Seki petty knife to two of my friends after my purchase. Every kitchen needs a 5-6 inch petty knife and this is ideal for me. This would no doubt compete with the popular tojiro petty knife but the kai seki was on sale so i have no regrets at all. PS, Kai Seki is the same manufacturer as SHUN knives and seem very comparable in this F-80X line.

really nice knife, thin blade, useful, watch your fingers...
while sharp out of the box I ran it through a simple sharpener and put it in my block, small size (just a bit larger than a paring knife) makes it very good for prep, for bigger jobs use a Nakiri, and/or chef knife. Blade is thin so it cuts easily without resistance. Looks cool, triangular handle is easy to grip, your hand is well protected by the squared bottom of the knife (unsharpened) so your fingers won't slide up the blade from the handle. Much higher quality than the chinese made knock offs IMHO, so worth 2x cost for real damascus steel and the thinness of the blade.
