It covers HTML, CSS, PHP and JavaScript, so it gives you a good background in most of the areas of expertise you'll need to be a full-stack developer. The code samples are solid, and the initially-odd-looking three-dimensional diagrams are actually a great way to depict a web application to architects, designers, and coders alike. Review: Pages of the book are very fragile and tear off easily. If you maintain your hand on a page for more than a couple of minutes, the page gets damaged.

I’ve been in software engineering for well … too long. I got this book to help my daughter who wants to learn web development. This book covers all the basics from top to bottom, and I feel confident that if we go through it together, she’ll be exposed to all the major web technology parts, even if she eventually decided to replace PHP (taught in this book) with Python or Java. She’d still know what role it fills and how the pieces all fit together.

needed this for school. was what i was looking for. Good book. will always use it in the future!

This is a super good text, worth the cost and keeping around for reference for a while. The only gripe I have is that the layout is occasionally too busy and seems like something that was designed for PDF or eBooks rather than the printed page.
