Rat Loves It!
My rat absolutely loves this! I've found that the medium size works well for a small rat, but for big rats, I would recommend getting the large size as the opening hole is not very big (we don't want any of our babies getting stuck!). The timothy hay roof can be messy when the ties are chewed, but once the roof is gone, I just leave the base in the cage so that it can be a chew toy. Overall, this product is great quality and totally worth the price. I would definitely recommend this product to any rodent owner!

READ THE UPDATE! important for small animal safety.
My hamsters a chewer. I didn't want to keep buying new expensive huts that weren't meant to be chewed so I got this one. I know it'll get chewed on. She's chewing on it now. But that's why I got it. So far she likes it and I'm happy with it. My only hope is it'll....they should make a hut like this but without the straw roof or there should be a solid roof under the straw for when they rip that off.12/10/2017 UPDATE:I absolutely ADORED this, my hamster chewed on it like crazy. I've even gotten the log. however..........upon further research this is not good for your small animals! I was under the impression it was honey and alfalfa but I guess it also contains pine. this is DANGEROUS! if you watch your hamster sometimes they will put things in their mouth, my hamster puts new bedding in her mouth but will spit it out because she realizes its not food......with this she would not know! so they are ingesting pine. I thought I found a really good chew toy but at last I did not. on the search for another good chew.....

My gerbil seems happy with it, though now I want more of that straw or hay from the roof.
So, I was a little disappointed that Mickey (our gerbil) chewed the entire roof off within a few hours, but he still likes climbing in and around the bottom part and he's still chewing on it. He seems to enjoy it and now I know he likes hay or whatever that is from the roof.

Hamster likes it and so do I
I've had this house for quite some time and though my Syrian has detached the roof by chewing through its strings, this house has withstood his constant gnawing and overall looks just as nice as when it first arrived. It's dual purpose and cute. My hamster sleeps in the house or chews it as he pleases, the rich red color brightening up the cage and matching the rest of the natural themed toys. The one I received hasn't grown mold or shown anything else I'd consider a safety risk. Very satisfied *thumbs up*

Pretty, not very useful
My hamster loved to eat the roof of the house. She bit along the trunk too, but never made a dent. I ended up removing it because the roof was so ugly, so I cut the roof off (it's just attached by strings). So now I have a trunk with a hole at the top. Which is ok, cause I can store food in it. She never wanted to sleep in there, though. She just pushes all her soiled bedding in it.

To easily pulled apart
There is nothing really wrong with is but I gave 4 stars because my daughters gerbils tore the roof apart about 10 minutes after receiving the house. And now there is just a base sitting in the cage and they done want to chew on it and it doesn't work as a hide out. Next time I will be going with a non-thatched roof type.

Not exactly how I thought she would use it ~
My hamster does like this house and loves chewing on it. It is a good size and feels like good quality. The lid is tied down with 3 thick strings, or was. My hamster tore off the top and dragged it away to sleep under it.She has abandoned the house part for anything other than chewing but, she really likes sleeping under the lid by itself hahha.I tried putting other houses in her cage but she always chooses this one, or the lid anyway. So.. served its purpose? xD

My Gerbils LOVE it
For Gerbils who love to chew this product is great! The body lasts longer than regular wooden house/hideaway. The roof part is also edible and my Gerbils detaches it within the first day...(oh well it's normal) You should never buy plastic house for your Gerbils as it is toxic if they chew it (and they will even you provide LOTS of chew toys for them)
