I love historical fictions, they give you a front row seat into how our world was shaped while breathing life into long dead people. This series did that and MORE! I recommend starting at the first book and, if you are half as into these books as I was, you won't be able to put them down. Pros: - Battle scenes, very descriptive and exciting. I would like to congratulate the author on keeping the types of battles written throughout the series fresh and interesting. They fought constantly for generations but always a new location, new odds, new strategy, new obstacles. Very EXCITING! -Character development. The number of characters is never overwhelming and you become emotionally invested in their lives. They have varying personalities, goals, dreams, while still keeping a bit of humor. -Extremely well written -Great mix of historical fact and page turning dramas. I really enjoyed understanding the life of the Mongols. They are strong people. Very impressive. -Scenery descriptions, I loved the changes in scenery and I have a much deeper understanding of the climate and environment of the Mongol, Asian, and Islamic parts of the world. Plus the struggles that had to over come to survive and conquer. -Assassins~! Only the Mongols would take on assassin strong holds... The author truly captures the essence of this book in his final note: "This story began as a single starving family, hunted and alone on the plains of Mongolia -- and ends with Kublai Khan ruling an empire larger than that of Julius Ceaser or Alexander the Great. Over just three generations, that is simply the greatest rags-to-riches tale in human history" Conn Iggulden I am now going to read his Ceaser series and any other historical fiction Conn Iggulden writes!! WONDERFUL!!!! Review: The Mongol Story Continues - As the story continues in this 4th book of the series we get to continue to see how and why the Empire started by Genghis Khan continues to grow and evolve. Told as a novel but based on facts the reader can feel as if they are actually there in several locations. Well written and informative, it was a very hard book to set down but rather led to LONG reading sessions. Very enjoyable.

Great historical fiction!
This series is amazing! I tried the first book so see what I thought about some Ghengis Khan story telling and I was hooked. The book is brings you in quick, I found it entertaining, educational, and just a damn fun read. One of my friends is now reading them. Highly recommended reading if you love historical fiction.

Great Series!
If you do not like reading scholarly treatises on History, but are interested in the Mongolian Empire, then this is a thrilling way to read about the "Golden Horde." For a nation of hunter-herdsmen to be able to conquer a vast amount of China, the Persian empire, Russia, and Eastern Europe, is incredible. An amazing story of a brutal and ambitious people from an unforgiving land. You won't be able to put these books down!

really good book from a master storyteller
Loved the book, a great chapter in this excellent series that continues to chart the rise of the Mongol empire. There's real depth to the characters and rich telling of battles and key moments in history. A thoroughly good read and having just finished this book I am already reading the next book on the series.

I haven't quite finished it yet but it seems a little slower than the other books in the series. Still very enjoyable and necessary part of the series seems to be historically accurate although some interesting historical incidents seem to have been left out. What I missed the most was that a Christian member of the Khan's court was sent into Europe in advance of the invasion and reported made it to England where he had communion with the King. He was latter rebuked by the Pope. Anyhow seems like an interesting piece of history that has been often overlooked.

After Genghis was his sons, and their sons.
I've enjoyed reading this series on the Mongolian empire. I remembered some of it from history class. But to have it laid out in a well written, steady paced story makes it enjoyable. The author Conn Iggulden doesn't get dry or stale. With the main character changing from Genghis to his sons, then his grandsons reinvigorates the series with the fresh personalities. Have fun, check it out.

Great Read
Iggulden weaves historical fact with a good story, filling in the blanks based on his suppositions and factual knowledge. Great story teller. I have read the entire series about the Khans and have a new appreciation about the history of the "Mongol Hordes" which Iggulden points out was a misnomer. Great reading recommend to others. Will now move on to his stories about the Roman emperors.

Une suite passionnante de la saga Gengis Khan. Je ne comprends pas pourquoi elle n’est pas traduite en français comme les 3 premiers volumes afin de la rendre accessible à davantage de lecteurs en France.

Conn Iggulden takes us on a rip-roaring tide of battles, military strategem, new weaponry with lots of blood, internal feuding, death, and unimaginable destruction of an empire. We are offered a great breath of literal delights of the transitional period of turmoil between Genghis and Kublai; as the brothers, sons and grandsons fight and contrive evil plots for the succession to be Khan of the Wolves and the Mongolian Empire. I am always struck by Conn's relentless conditioning of the everyday details, so that we can thrive in our own pictorial knowledge in the lives of the Mongol horde. Descriptions of the food, drink (Mostly Airag!), clothing and the amazing geography of the landscapes they conquer are superbly fashioned in every chapter. I really miss the violent, ruthlessly selfish but intelligent Ghengis; but this continues a fantastic story on the lives of Ogedai and Chagatai. A thoroughly entertaining narrative of the struggles and strife of the 13th century. I can't wait for the next Iggulden project.

The story of such a life that is different from ours in almost every way should be boring or incomprehensible. Instead, it is the most exciting thing- the only thing I think of even when I am not reading!!

Another excellent piece in the history of the mongol empire. If you have read this far in the series there is not really a need to convince you the keep this up. The quality is good and delivery with prime proves solid again.

This is like reading History. No - more than that! It is like LIVING history! I went off and googled the lineage of Genghis Khan and his Kharnates etc along with the cities. It was fascinating to read and research it at the same time. Flawed men all of them. And a barbaric time in history. This series is THE BEST SERIES to read if you want precise history, culture and life in detail. If you love history and conquests and real people...you will love this series.
