Perfect for replacing a chandellier with a ceiling fan.
Last year I took down a chandelier and replaced it with a ceiling fan. I should have replaced the mounting bracket but it was hard to deal with it through the 4" opening so I just used the existing box. I could never get the fan to mount flush with the ceiling and it always wobbled when on high speed. "There must be some better way to make this work," I thought. Finally I discovered the Saf-T-Brace, ordered it with Amazon Prime, received it a couple of days later and was ready to redo my previous patch job. The hard part was getting the old mounting bracket out of the way. It used thin enough metal that I was able to nibble through it with side cutters and then bend it out of the way, after removing the junction box.. Somewhat difficult working through that little hole, but not terrible. Then came the easy part: I extended the Saf-T-Brace to about 22", stuck it through the hole, positioned it over the opening and twisted the bar to extend it until it was tightly jammed into the ceiling joists. It was really solid! Though I didn't try it, I'm sure I could have done a one handed chin-up from it without a problem, were I strong enough. Next I slipped the holding bracket over the bar then opened one of the cable feed-throughs in the supplied new box, inserted the plastic cable clamp and slipped my wires through. The handy little magnet piece made it easy to get the included box fastened on -- and I was good to go. Back up the ladder to rehang the fan and now it is tight against the ceiling without a trace of movement when running. The Saf-T-Brace is a well made sturdy product, that installed easily, worked as specified and I'm very pleased with it.

Easy to install electrical box for a Celine fan.
This is an amazing product for hanging a Celine fan. Very sturdy and works as advertised. Be sure and watch the installation video.

My go to for old lamp boxes when swapping to fans
I've used other types of fan hangers and prefer these for their design. Even when the old lamp hole is smack dab next to a joist they are greatly adaptable. Strong and easy to use, never had one fail. The cleats that penetrate The framing are aggressive for good bite.

Work well and so far is performing
This was easy to install and held up well the magnet to come off so you have to be careful when installing it. The main problem with this is the plastic tabs if you drop it or hit it too hard, the tabs will break and so it makes it more complicated to install.

great product
this is a great little product, wish i had thought of it. what a timesaver. i highly recommend it to anyone: Westinghouse Lighting 0110000 Saf-T-Brace for Ceiling Fans, 3 Teeth, Twist and Lock. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00027EWNW/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_title if you do not already have an electric box where you want to install your fan, or if you cannot get up into the attic. this product made it so easy a caveman can do it! hahaha it comes with the bar, screws and the electical box, everything you need except the electrical wire. and if your thinking why spend the extra money when i could just go up there and put a piece of 2x4 in between the joists. well i thought the same thing, and it's not as easy as you may think. it saves you the time and extra work of having to go up and down from the attic,to measure the space between the joists, cut the 2x4 and then going back up to screw in place. not to mention the strength and screws it would require to screw a 2x4 to another 2x4 on both sides level and at the right depth. and if you don't get it right the first time you'll have to go up and reposition etc etc etc. sound worth it to you yet? joists in homes are spaced differenty, some are 12" apart, some 16 and some like mine are 24" apart. this thing extends to whatever size you might need. and the box ends up sitting at exactly the right depth for the fan. perfect! it's sturdy and very easy to install. i did it myself with one hand, and i am a 5'3" woman who never did anything like this before. as they say, it was a piece of cake but only because of this product. best price is right here on Amazon, so don't even bother looking anywhere else. if this sounds like what you might need, go ahead and get one, you can thank me later.

Great brace
I replaced my large fan in the Great Room and wanted to take the old fan and upgrade another room that still had the cheap white and gold fan installed by contractor 20 years ago. Unfortunately, the cheap 20 year old fan weighed nothing, thus it was supported by a plastic box. This plastic box would never hold up to the MUCH heavier fan I was installing. This brace was perfect and worked like a charm. One thing I wanted to note is there was a version of the brace already in the ceiling for the 20 year old fan. I feel like this is probably typical for a replacement situation. What this means is you will have to plan on going into the attic to remove the old brace. It's not as simple as just putting the new one up in the hole. However, I don't mind going into the attic and I liked the fact I could install this thing from above, making sure both sides get "bite" into the rafters. The directions say don't install with a wrench, but I did because I couldn't get a "bite" on one side without cranking on it a bit. I think they are trying to avoid the brace from bowing when cranked too hard. I think there's a sweet spot, which hopefully I found. It would be impossible to see without getting into the attic. YMMV.

Great Solution
This is an excellent solution to adding a fan somewhere in your house. One note is that to really crank it down, you may need to use a crescent wrench to turn it, which may require you to be in the attic space. I did this because I have adequate room in my attic to do so. But it's a great product and an easy way to get a fan in the ceiling.

First time I've used this bracket, so after installing it I still went up in the attic to see how it went. Providing that you place it straight between the joists, you're in business. If not, you risk putting it on an angle between two joists compromising regidity of the brace. Otherwise, it's a massive time saver and in a way it serves as a junction box by isolating your wires from insulation (would be better if it was made of non conductive material, probably cheaper to manufacture too). My ceilings are level so I didn't have to deal with balancing the fan blades. However, if you do get a fan wobble, make sure that the brace is sitting flat on the plasterboard on both ends. If it is but you still get fan wobble your celing is not level. Balancing kit will help you sort it.

The Westinghouse was sufficient for the light weight fan I installed. I don't have read access to the ceiling cavity so this type of brace was a good option. Did the job that it was advertised to do, easy to install so reasonable happy with the purchase.
