Devil Take the Hindmost: A History of Financial Speculation

Excellent story, appalling Kindle formatting
I am a fan of Edward Chancellor's books and this is an excellent story laid low by appalling formatting for Kindle. The warning came early as the contents pages were just very small images of the book pages as if poorly photographed. Normal text then resumes but typographical errors persist throughout, making whole sentences unintelligible in some cases. More frustratingly, the numerous footnotes are not positioned at the foot of pages where they should be but appear anywhere in the text, breaking up the flow of the text and requiring a sometimes difficult search to find where the main story resumes. Similarly, book and chapter titles, and page numbers, intended for the bottom of pages, appear anywhere in the string of text, further encumbering reading. These problems persisted despite trying three different Kindle devices (a Kindle reader and the Kindle app on a tablet and on a PC with a range of text sizes). It seems as though the book was scanned by some text recognition software and no effort was made to proof read the resulting string of text. Very poor presentation indeed at the premium price for a Kindle book. So 5-stars for the story but (charitably) 1-star for presentation.

A most helpful supplier when made aware of delay which could have been due to Royal Mail problems.
Bought as a gift.

THIS TIME IS NOT DIFFERENT!
Edward Chancellor investigates the stock market from an academic perspective. Shockingly Chancellor shows time after time humans falling prey to the same greed and irrationality. The question is when will the next financial earthquake happen?

Excellent
Excellent Book. If we learn one thing from history, it is that we don't learn from history. Anyone interested in the current financial crisis or looking to invest should read this book first. Reads like a novel. Recommended
