Bulfinch's Mythology: The Classic Introduction to Myth and Legend-Complete and Unabridged (Tarcher Cornerstone Editions)

Loaned my copy of Bulfinch to a friend and never got it back !!! I replaced it (thanks to Amazon ) and I am happy to have it in my library again. If you buy Bulfinch's Mythology, you will eventually ask yourself how you ever got along without it . Open the book and be prepared to be transported to a realm filled with wonders, delights, and things that go bump in the night.

An introduction to the world of myth, and the first one ever made for the mass market. Focus on Roman mythology (practically identical to Greek), also includes small sections of Norse and a tiny one on Hindu mythology. Second half of the book is legends of King Arthur, knights during the time of Charlemagne, and similar early Medieval tales. Reading those made me understand the mockery of Monty Python a bit better, but they were certainly an enjoyable read. Myths were for the most part presented in pretty concise form. I don't believe this is the best version out there, but it is a good version and serves as a good introduction to mythology.
