Great light
Works great this light lights up a huge area and generally last 3-6 years it just depends! I use it multiple times a night for my dogs so it's always going on and off! Love it

Inexpensive but not very reliable
I initially purchased four of these floodlights a few years ago. They had mixed reviews on Amazon, but the price was substantially lower than similar floodlights so I bought them. They seemed to work well at first, lots of light was provided from the 500 watt bulb and the metal housing/glass front are no frills but functional. I paired up the lights at corners of my house so they could face different directions and light up specific spots in my yard such as walkways or parts of the lawn. The floodlights are used primarily for short periods of time anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or two when I'm taking the dog out or perhaps working in the yard. The bulbs that came with the fixtures lasted one month, six months and at the longest around a year. I thought they might be cheaper quality bulbs because they burned out so quickly, so I replaced them with heavy duty bulbs that I bought at Home Depot and Lowes (Sylvania and GE brands) and those bulbs lasted two+ years and one is still going strong. I thought after the first year of using them that they were decent quality fixtures for the price.Last year I had built a large metal outbuilding that required six areas around the perimeter of the building that needed lighting. I needed a lot of light, so I once again put up pairs of the floodlights at each spot along the perimeter for a total of twelve fixtures. The fixtures are spaced apart so the heat doesn't build up and the coverage from the lights is spread out a bit more. The twelve newer fixtures are burning up halogen bulbs at an annoyingly fast rate! A few of the original bulbs are still working after a year, but I've replaced nine of the original bulbs and then had to replace another four of those bulbs a second time. One of the bulbs literally melted the sockets and ruined the fixture. It has been removed.I'm not sure if there's something different with the quality of the newer fixtures, the bulbs, or both. Whatever the case, having to replace bulbs every month or two is annoying, expensive, and not something that should be necessary. I thought I was saving myself a lot of money by buying these less expensive fixtures, but in the long run it's actually going to cost me more in time and money if the bulbs continue to burn out at this rate.I am going to gradually replace the fixtures with LED floodlights that are much more energy efficient and will not require bulb changes for 50-100K hours or longer. It'll cost me a heck of a lot more initially, but the savings in power and time will be worth it in the long run. I would NOT recommend purchasing this light fixture unless you enjoy replacing bulbs that burn out all too frequently.

Crap bulb.
Good price but you get what you pay for. The bulb that comes with it blew as soon as I turned it on.

Well Made, Fair Price
I bought one of these light fixtures as a test. I needed six fixtures to space around the perimeter of my garage, but I was not going to buy all six at once without checking the quality of a test unit first. The first unit I bought arrived with a broken bulb. This is a halogen-type 500-watt bulb. It appeared that the bulb was broken during installation, not during shipment, since the packaging was in good shape and there was no visible damage to the fixture itself, including the glass faceplate or lens. Someone apparently twisted the bulb in its socket and broke the glass tab at one end of the bulb. So, bad start. However, the fixture itself appeared to be well made from fairly thick cast aluminum with a heavy coat of enamel paint. I think the hook-up wires are a little too thin for a 500-watt fixture. They appear to be #16 wire, but as long as they do not melt, I guess they are OK.The unit installs easily to a standard 4-inch round junction box and comes with everything you need, such as a gasket, wire nuts, and mounting screws. The instructions are about one page and easy to follow.I recently bought the other five units that I needed. I checked all of them for damage. No problems. At about $13.00 each, these lights seem fairly priced. I gave them four stars instead of five because of the broken light bulb.UPDATE, October 2010: These units have been in place for several months now. There have been no problems with the units. They seem to be standing up to the elements very well. However, I should add that they are not used too often, i.e., the lights are not turned on often and do not run very long when they are on. The only minor problem I have noticed is that insects tend to get trapped under the glass faceplates. This means the faceplates or the venting built into the units are not as snug as they should be, and the units will need periodic cleaning, or perhaps, "debugging."UPDATE, January 2011: I am going through halogen bulbs like crazy. Some of them only last an hour or two. Not sure what's up with that. Maybe cheap bulbs, maybe wind vibration, maybe poor heat dissipation from the fixtures. Whatever is going on, I am not happy about it.

Good product gone bad.
So far (several months), so good. Lights up a large area: driveway, front yard. Now after a few months, it continually burns out the 500W bulbs. The other issue is that it is mounted close to the roof so climbing onto the roof to change a bulb is not much fun. After 5 bulbs from different manufacturers, we are removing this and getting one from a home supply storeI do NOT recommend this product.

Works awesome!
I was disappointed at the selection of flood lighting - but this one will work awesome!Like the other reviews, the wiring looks a little stingy for a 500W light fixture (I'm running 300W bulbs in it, so I'm not worried, with the option to up it to 500W)Also, I'm greasing up the contacts for the lights, as other reviewers say they corrode - I'm hoping that will prevent my contacts from dying after months/years - I'll update you on how this goes. For the price, you can't beat them - just be careful when mounting them, I was pushing too hard and cracked the aluminum housing/mounting bracket on one of the two I mounted.also, the 300W version of this light is basically the same thing, Just a tid smaller, I got one of those too - and they use the same wiring.
