Best Writing Workbook out there
My 11 year old son has a learning disability called dysgraphia (Disorder of Written Expression) The words get all jumbled up in his head and he is unable to construct a proper paragraph. I have tried SO MANY PROGRAMS to no avail. This particular workbook starts at the foundation- writing good sentences. That's Part 1. In Part 2, they begin to write paragraphs and teach about different types of paragraphs. My son is actually flourishing with this. DON'T SKIP PART ONE. I know you might be tempted, even if your kid can write stellar sentences, it will boost his confidence to produce them for you. For my fellow homeschoolers: This is an amazing, simple and inexpensive way to teach your children how to write good sentences and good paragraphs. I'm in year 6 of homeschooling my son and I have wasted so much money on janky programs/workbooks. This one actually works. My son also has ADHD, so we can only do one worksheet a day...and he usually begs to stop in the middle. But we don't. Anyways, great workbook- love it.

Good review or learning new
This series is excellent for really nailing down the skills necessary to build great writing. I chose this book to help my son expand his writing skills; he is thriving. Even better, I get to enjoy that moment when "the lights go on" as he really understands a concept or skill. There have been a lot of those with this book. All that said, it's not easy, though the concepts are kept simple as they're built. Still, I highly recommend this book and the series.

Excellent resource
I teach a 6th grade writing class for homeschoolers. Most of them are on level, but need some help going back to basics and redefining what makes a paragraph, what makes a well- stitched together piece of writing, and how to formulate effective sentences. This book is excellent. I’ve already highlighted so many pages. I love their lesson suggestion pages. I’m a certified teacher and feel confident to create my own lessons, but I still enjoy reading how they would design and implement lessons. It is a terrific resource and I’m so happy to have found it! I ordered 8 writing books and this one is a gold mine! I’m probably going to return the other 7! Highly recommend. I would even recommend to parents to help their kids with writing at home. The organizers would be amazing to help students formulate ideas.

Seems like a great book.
I bought this for my son for next year (4th grade). He's a reluctant writer and still doesn't understand how to make a paragraph "flow". I like the pages that start a paragraph and have the child fill in the rest, giving 2 or 3 more sentence starters throughout (pgs. 64-69). I think this will help teach him to write more fluidly and not make it sound like he is making lists. The book touches on complete and incomplete sentences, subjects and predicates, kinds of sentences, combining sentences, complex sentences, beginning sentences with a clause, adding details, using figurative language, and using similes, metaphors, personification, and alliteration. All of that is fit into the first ~1/3 of the book and the rest is about building paragraphs. This is definitely not a book for younger students just learning to write, unless you have other material to supplement the building blocks leading up to writing paragraphs. This book does not focus on spelling, and only a little on grammar and punctuation. It's more about learning to write in an engaging way. It also includes writing webs and how to organize details in paragraphs.

Definitely used! And not erased.
I like this product. I am a fourth grade teacher and this will be helpful in my classroom. However, I’m a little disappointed that I have to go through and erase about 50 pages in order to be able to use it in my classroom. About half the book is written in I’m kind of disappointed that the seller didn’t even try to erase the pages for the next user.My overall rating is in regards to the seller not the product. I’m actually pretty happy with this book and what it can offer in my classroom. It’s really great for practice with finding main ideas and writing topic sentences and supporting detailed sentences, which is what my class really needs.

Takes kids from zero to hero
I used this with a 4th grader and 6th grader, going by topic weekly. After about 6 weeks they were done with the book, but their understanding of writing sentences and paragraphs was really clarified by this exercise. Some other reviews mention juvenile topics, but that's the point. They are easy to understand and write about by young children. If you are stuck on getting your child to write 'better' -- this is the book to take them from zero to hero.
