Essential for installing slimline DVDs to a desktop
If you decide to use a slimline DVD in a desktop, you need two things: a bay converter (to hold the slimline DVD in a 5.25 bay (my personal preference being the Lian Li EX-553 5.25" Bay HDD Converter / Slim CD-ROM Adapter / USB Port (EX-553B) - enough room for a 256 Crucial M4 SSD on the bottom and a Sony Optiarc CD/DVD Burner -Black SATA Model AD-7690H-01 on the top)......and one of these. You'll also need a free 4-pin molex connector to supply power, but that's not much of an issue.Recently, I took out the Pioneer Blu-Ray DVD player / normal DVD burner of my laptop and replaced it with a 750GB Western Digital drive to act as the storage drive for my SSD, and shifted the "DVD" duties to an external ByTecc USB 3.0 5.25 drive converter for a basic ASUS DVD writer. Short version - my laptop has a 256GB SSD for programs and 750GB for storage of files with an external DVD burner running off USB 3.0. I then had a Blu-Ray laptop DVD player with no real usage. So, Lian Li bay converter plus Starline converter = extra storage in 5.25" bay and extra DVD burner. The other thing is that if you plan on doing this sort of thing, one of these little 20-inch converters are more or less required. StarTech happens to be one of the few companies that make these - they also happen to be the best one out there. One thing I don't particularly like is that this converter doesn't have a 6/GBs connection - but since you're slapping it to a DVD burner, you're not going to need that vast speed interchange. But that's my Picky McPickerson coming out, and the only reason this wouldn't get a full five stars.Call me a design nerd, but I do tend to like to have the capacity to go full throttle even if it's technologically not going to happen. I just wish StarTech offered this in a higher speed compatibility for the SATA connection.

Great cable adaptor
I replaced my power supply and didn't realize that it was missing the power connector for the slim DVD.This was exactly what I needed; DVD was instantly detected and working after attaching this cable adapter. My only regret is that I did not find and purchase this cable sooner.

Works as well as I wanted it to
I built a new computer and gave my old computer to my boyfriend. However, I realized I did not purchase a CD/DVD player along with the other computer parts. I had a broken laptop so I took it apart and remove the CD/DVD player from the laptop to use for my computer instead of buying a completely new CD/DVD player.Worked perfectly. Only issue I had was my motherboard decided that my CD/DVD player was a harddrive at first and I had to change the bios settings so it would not boot from it. Other than that, it works just fine.Perfect for those trying to use a laptop CD/DVD player for a desktop.

Waste of money!
Why this product didnt qualify for free shipping like the rest of my order is beyond me. Paying $6.00 to ship a $1.40 item is a RIP OFF! I thought Amazon held shipping fees in check so vendors like this didnt rip off customers. Come on, a small cable like this costs $6.00 to ship, give me a break. Many of the safeguards I thought Amazon had in place to ensure that customers are not taken advantage of have turned out to be merely window dressing, thankfully I dont order a lot from here so I will take this as a learning experience and hope that anyone reading this considers making such purchases elsewhere. I will update on item quality once I receive it in about a week, for $6.00 it should be here over night.

Just What I Needed
My micro ATX case only had room for a slimline drive, so I needed an adapter to run power to the drive and also a SATA cable to connect the drive to my motherboard. This adapter fulfilled both my needs. After connecting the drive with this, it was instantly recognized by my computer and has worked perfectly since. My only concern is that the adapter that plugs into the drive feels somewhat loose, though I have had no trouble with it detaching. Even if I have to at some point secure the adapter, for the price it is still a five star product.

StarTech.com 20-Inch Slimline SATA to SATA with LP4 Power Cable Adapter
I had a Slim DVD drive left over from a laptop upgrade that I wanted to use in a Mini-ITX case. Since the connections on a Slim drive are different from the standard SATA connections, I needed this adapter to make it work. The build quality is great and it fit my needs perfectly. Note that this particular adapter connects to a 4-pin Molex output from your PSU. I think there is another model that can connect to a SATA power connector if that is what you need.

Professional well made - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
As always for StarTech this was a fantastic product again. The Molex power cables [to the point where the connectors fully engage] is 15cm to the Slimline SATA molded connector [for your CD/DVD drive etc]. The SATA cable is 37cm long. This is a great little cable and has great performance. very happy with this and will be buying again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Does what it says on the tin
Used this as part of a graphics card update to a HP small form factor PC. I had to upgrade the PSU first to a new Corsair modular unit, but it turned out the Corsair PSU didn’t have a connector for the slimline optical drive. This cable did the trick.

Its above the rest!
Works like a charm here within 2-3 days, Sadly my old Blu Ray Drive died when I plugged this new adaptor into it, not sure if it was the Cable or the output from the power supply killed it but my other cables and this still work just not the Blu ray drive.
