We use this to keep connected to the kids in the neighborhood and on the slopes. When tested, the signal became staticy at about 0.62 miles by foot (a bit shorter directly). The radio waves traveled from the back inside corner of our home, through 5 plaster walls, a standard aluminum garage door (~45 ft so far), through two standard plaster three-bedroom homes, down a sloped two lane street (~8 to 10 degrees) for about 0.25 miles, then slopes to ~10 to 12 degrees for 0.25 miles. On the slopes, all 4 devices spread across 195 acres, Base Lodge Elevation: 8,660 ft to Summit 11,289 ft, inside the lodge, through trees, no static, clear communication and no interference from other people's channels. From 830am to 330pm, at full volume, only went down one bar after a full night's charge. Was especially handy since there was no cell signal and the wifi was laggy because of all the people. 4 different colors lets the kids claim their own. Small compact, sturdy, easy to program. Can't wait to test when we go camping this spring. Can you tell I'm a fan? Lastly, the zipper charger is cool, enough to charge all 4 devices at the same time..A reliable, cost effective solution. I purchased these for 3 best friends who live a half mile apart. Now they can talk on walks home from school and from home!! They can be a bit static at times but during a storm and power outage, my daughter and her 2 friends were able to talk on these. It was pretty exciting for them! The charger is so fun and works really well. I love that the charger is not a custom design so it is replaceable and I was able to order a 3rd charger so each friend can half a walkie and charge it in their own home. I was very surprised by how hard it was to find a set with that option. These are exactly what we wanted and they have been working out perfectly for us. Hopefully they will last a long time! Light but sturdy feel, easy to understand the directions. Weather updates is also a plus! The battery life is excellent.

Good for short distance

I bought these wondering if they would still work with the higher quality radios… they do not but they are still a great addition to my construction crew. I figured I’ll try the cheaper ones for a while and see how they work and if they can manage to not get lost or broken. So far they are perfect for what I’m doing and they would be great camping or hiking and they are perfect quality for kids/construction workers and anyone looking for some two way radio fun. I haven’t done a true range test but I know for a fact I have had a perfectly clear converstation at about half a mile.

The rest of the radio features appear to work fine. However, I bought these because of the monitor function. All 4 radios produce a static sound if you turn on the monitor function of the radio. I tested them individually. I made sure the monitor radio was at least 20 feet away from the receiver radio. I check to make sure the radios were on the same channel with the same code. Also the VOX feature isn't that sensitive. Even at the highest level, you have to use a loud voice for it to pick you up when you are just standing right next to the radio. i was hoping these would be better, but perhaps I should have stuck with a more named brand.

My 7-year-old son got this set as a gift. He absolutely loves playing with these with his friends using the flashlight to investigate with each kid setting their own ringtone with 10 ringtones to choose from, which they enjoy changing. I love the fact I never have to buy batteries like with the toy walkie talkies and the battery lasts all day for hours. We tested these radios at the mall and the range was superb. I especially love the VOX hands-free feature which allows me to communicate with my child all day from different parts of the house or when he goes to his neighbors house. All we need to do is speak because it’s voice activated. This is 100 percent license free, unlike other 2 way radios on Amazon. I am still waiting to get a weather alert. But that is also an awesome feature.

I bought these to use on the trail when 4-wheeling but I was not able to connect with the other radios in my group. Ended up having to borrow one from someone else. They worked great communicating with each other just no other radios.
