Easy to use and calibrate
I do inspections of coatings for a third party that is very concerned about DFT. The only problem I have is not being able to buy replacement standards.

Great paint cage for the price.
This pink gauge works very well the only gripe I have with it is that the font is too small where I need to put on my reading glasses in order to read all the detail but as far as for the main number that you look for it's nice and legible. It is not a bad pain cage for the price.

WELL DESIGNED, EASY TO SET UP AND USE
GREAT DISPLAY, EASY TO SET UP IF YOU HAVE A BRAIN, WORKS VERY WELL. IT IS MY SECOND ONE AS THE FIRST ONE HAD A DEFECTIVE SENSOR PROBE.

Has potential
Would’ve been a great item if it wasn’t so hard to calibrate and kept its accuracy.

Este producto salió defectuoso. solo lo he utilizado una vez y ya no funciona; lo puse a cargar durante 3 horas y lo fue a prender y comenzó a pitar y ahora no prende.

Nice gauge with accessories
This is a pretty nice gauge, but is a bit more expensive than a lot of the competition on amazon. For the extra price, you get a nicer interface, data logging, hard case, and test plates. This unit might be more accurate than the cheaper ones but I’m not sure, I’ve not tested any of the cheaper ones. This unit reads within about 1% of the listed values on the test plates, which is good enough for me. I used some high quality calipers to check the thickness of the test plates, and they seemed accurate. Note that my calipers only read down to hundredths of a mm, so that’s the limit of what I could test for accuracy. This unit does feel relatively light and made of cheap materials, so I’m not sure how long it will last in a rough environment. If you are careful with it I think it should be fine. I like the data logging utility, although the user interface can be a bit clumsy to navigate around. On the plus side it pops right into the measurement screen as soon as it turns on, so you don’t have to sift through menus just to measure something. This came with older style NiMH batteries and not LiIon, but that’s ok. They are standard AAA size so easily replaced if needed. I have mixed feelings about the hard case. It does feel pretty sturdy and protective when it’s closed, but the lips on the sidewalls don’t line up perfectly so it can be a bit difficult to open and close. Additionally, the hinge and latches are both plastic, so they will fail and snap after repeated use. I would have rather seen hinge pins here. This case seems like it would be very frustrating to use frequently, but is ok for longer term storage or transport.

Got off on the wrong foot but it works quite well.
When I took it out of the box, language was set to Chinese. Had to use the flowchart to find the language setting. Not normally a big deal, but silly, the option for the English language setting was also in Chinese! They literally wrote “English” in Chinese characters rather than writing the language in the language it represents. Okay, not the end of the world...there’s only two options, but come on. This would be an easy fix. Beyond that, calibration gave me a little more confusion. When going through the test strips, the ones that should have been labeled 47 and 499 looked for all the world like 67 and 699 to me at first. Looking at the pics now, they could go either way. But why wouldn’t these be printed rather than handwritten? Okay, enough complaining about my slight confusion...this thing works really well and accurately. The screen is bright, easy to read, even in the sun and adjusts for orientation just like a cell phone. It uses AAA batteries and comes with rechargeable ones along with a USB cable and wall brick (all in a blow molded case). I like the versatility these battery options give because you have the option to use normal AAA batteries as needed...just don’t try to charge it with those in there! I’ve been after one of these for awhile. When shopping for vehicles, this is absolutely the easiest way to check for paint work/ accident repair, and worse, Bondo. My truck was consistent at around 5 mil, I bought it new so I know it wasn’t repainted anyway, just did it out of curiosity. Contrast it with my project car...the factory original single stage painted areas were around 2-3 mil. The areas that have been repainted, probably more than once, were 11-15 mil. Areas where I remembered a bit body filler being used were over 20. If you’re looking at a car and the thing is reading 30-40, or OL, you know you’ve got some mega filler going on...especially in areas where one would expect rust in this part of the country. I know there are many uses outside of automotive, that’s just what I intend to use it for and it works absolutely perfect. Also of note, I have verified it’s accuracy independently with paint protection film of a known thickness. It’s spot on.

I'm quite happy with the purchase of this paint thickness gauge! I've already put it to the test against my more expensive Delfesko DFT paint thickness gauge and it seems to excel with the accuracy of the paint thickness readings!
