Does what it ought to do...
This fits nicely on the NEX 5n, and seems well made. The M42 screw-mount can be rotated by loosening the three small set screws so that the lens might be oriented to one's liking, as I needed to do with an old Takumar 50mm f1.8. The combination works well and it is certainly fun to play with the old lenses again, using the 5n's excellent MF capabilities and the wonderful bokeh and shallow DOF inherent in the lens's design. I will probably get the equivalent Canon FD adapter as well. I believe that anyone with decent older MF lenses and a NEX ought to make the very small investment in one or more such adapters, it really is a lot of fun.

nicely finished and feature a button-type lens release instead of ...
I attempt to find Fotodiox adapters whenever I can. They are very accurately machined, nicely finished and feature a button-type lens release instead of a simple tab. So far, I have adapted nine of the most highly-rated prime lenses to my ILCE Sony 7R and the results are spectacular. I say that, because I have been using medium format cameras since 1941 and the results I am getting from my Sony surpass the shots out of my Rolleis, Hasselblad and Mamiya medium format equipment. Not only is the shadow detail greater, but the smoothness in even tones, like the sky, exceed that taken with film cameras. If Fotodiox maintain their present high standards of quality control at their reasonable price points, they will dominate the market. I know something about marketing. I was the Ad Mgr for a Fortune 500 company when I was 28. Of course, I've been retired now for some 30 years. Keep up the good work!

Super-Multi-Coated Takumar users beware
This adapter seems to be of very high quality.Initially I was disappointed because all my lenses were with their markings upside down when attached to the adapter. Fortunately there are good people like the reviewer before me who pointed out how to reposition the lens by loosening the adaptor screws. The older Takumar users should be aware that this adapter will not allow the aperture ring to be rotated as it has a protruding inner ring. I suspect this is the specification and Fotodiox built the item according to it - I have only one other adapter (for EOS) which does not have the protruding ring on the inside. Now I have to work with the Takumar by using the M42->EOS->NEX route.Other than that - no complains.I'm giving the adapter 5 stars as I think it is wonderful for the price.

Very good product
Very good adapter, all metal. It does focus to infinity, no problem with my Spiratone 28mm 2.8 lens, I've heard there's issues with Helios lenses but easy to hack. Recommended

Not a complex device
This works as stated, is well machined and cleanly finished. It is simply a tube of the correct length to allow for the use of Pentax screw mount lenses (M42 type lenses) on a Sony NEX e-mount camera. It clicks into place on the camera body smoothly and snugly. Then the M42 lenses screw into the adapter equally smoothly. However, you should check each time you shoot to make sure the lens is snug. It tends to loosen in use. This is especially true of long lenses. The problem is that the long lenses are heavy and you will, most likely, find yourself handling and carrying the camera by the lens if it is long (e.g. 135mm or 200mm etc.) to keep the weight off of the camera body lens flange. Additionally, you may find the older lenses are a bit stiff to focus if they have been out of use for a while (very likely!). As you focus, you may accidentally find yourself unscrewing the lens.

Worked
All my M42 lenses fit and were able to achieve infinity focus. Including an 8 blade Pentax 50mmf1.4 lens.

Fotodiox M42 Adapter
The Fotodiox M42 adapter works will with Pentax and most other brand lenses that have a automatic diaphragm with a control pin on the back of the lens mount, with the Sony A7R. The adapter includes a seat on the inside that pushes the pin in so that the diaphragm is always closed to your set shooting aperture. The camera sets the correct exposure on using aperture preferred and following additional Sony instructions. You cannot use the "Manual/Auto" lever on the lens to open the diaphragm using this adapter. Also, you cannot use preset Zeiss Jena lenses that have a metal rim extending beyond the threaded part of the lens mount because they clash with the seat in the Fotodiox M42 to Sony E adapter. If you wish to use the Manual/Auto lever to open the diaphragm on your M42 lenses, you may do so by getting the Fotodiox Pentax K-mount to Sony E adapter and adding a Pentax M42 to K adapter. Then you may focus with the lens wide open and then move the Manual/Auto lever to close the lens to shooting aperture.Similarly, if you wish to shoot with older (1950's) preset Zeiss Jena lenses, use a Fotodiox Pentax K-mount to Sony E adapter and a Pentax M42 to K mount adapter ring, and these lenses will fit perfectly.Note added: Upon seeing comments on reflections from the rear of the front ring, I mitigated this problem by using a black Sharpie pen on the back of the chrome ring. If you wish, you could remove the chrome ring and use flat black primer paint. Finally, I have had no trouble using this adapter with nine different SMC and Super Multi-Coated Pentax lenses.

Great for Full Frame Sony Mirrorless like my Sony A7S II using Vintage lenses Helios and Jupiter
This M42 to E mount adapter works perfectly for my M42 lenses. I use them with my Helios 44-2 58mm f2 and Jupiter 11 135mm f4 lenses. The adapter works for Full Frame without any vignetting on my Sony A7S II full frame mirrorless camera. Solid build and fits snug. Would recommend because I have two of them :D

Works for the Auto Yashinon 5cm F2
Finally I found an M42 adaptor that works for the Auto Yashinon 5cm F2. It closes down the pin for the aperture and allows infinity focusing.
