Effective at catching rats!
Having moved into a new house we could hear movement in our ceiling space. I purchased these and they arrived the following morning, baited them with peanut butter before work. They feel sturdy and have a very strong spring and an extremely sensitive trigger.I wasn't expecting to catch anything quite so quickly but by that evening we'd already caught an adult rat. A few hours later we heard the second go off - along with a bit of commotion - and soon enough our second adult rat was no longer.I've rebaited them but haven't caught anything and haven't heard anything - hopefully thats the end of it!

Rat traps
Basic rat traps that are sturdy and strong and pinpoints on the ends for pinning down don't break off . Very good , very pleased .

very powerful
I've been using one of these for a while in a garden shed where I know Rats sometimes get in. It's easy enough to set up, but you want to be very careful with it because if you set if off accidentally and get a finger caught you will be in trouble!.. the spring is very fast and very strong. They are exactly like a standard mouse trap, but about twice the size and strength. So far mine has been triggered three times without actually catching anything, but the last time it was triggered I found a dead rat lying next to it. I can only assume the first two times the rat was too quick, but the final time I think it must have been hit on the head by the spring and the blow killed it despite not actually being caught in the trap. So it appears to work, but rats can be clever and often avoid being caught in any kind of trap.

Rats learn to avoid them
The first night we baited them one of the two rats in utility room was caught and killed. Rats are bright and learn quickly. Been baiting them for a further week. Traps worked every night but rat managed to remove bait and then escape unscathed for a further week so we gave up on them. Now trying a differently designed model.

Ineffective
My resident rat is not fooled by these. I used gloves and placed the traps along walls where I'd seen the rat. I baited traps with small amount of peanut butter. Several days and nothing happened. Then I actually saw the rat walk boldly up to one of the traps, sniff the peanut butter without touching it, then sniff around the rest of the trap, and then walk away.
