My New Go-To Book
I listen to an Audible book called Key Person of Influence over and over again. It's a great book to which I frequently go back and revisit. Until now, its been my go-to book, Create and Prosper by Matthew Essam might just have taken that mantle.I've only scratched the surface, but its a short, easy-to-read book, with plenty of insight which I get as a business owner, after just doing the first two exercises I've already got a new perspective on my working life. I've come to realise some insights about my business and for that matter, my life and my values which I can put into practice straight away. A great read and a resource I'll be using for months and years to come, I expect, it dovetails powerful, proactive thinking and tangible strategies for business owners like me.A must for any freelancer or business owner looking for a fulfilling working life. If you like Daniel Priestley's KPI or Jeb Blount's Fanatical Prospecting, you'll definitely like Matthew Essam's, Create and Prosper.

Book for freelancers and creatives ready to push to the next level
This is an interesting book with some challenging ideas about what many people think are immutable laws of running a small business or being a freelancer in the creative industry. It's probably most relevant to someone who's been through the mill a bit, and feels tired of the same old work, for the same old clients you're not really invested in.I get the impression that the author is a collector of ideas, selecting best practice from leading thinkers in business development, as well as psychology and spirituality. The principles behind the book are very compelling and interesting. Will be most helpful to people seeking more meaningful work, ready to take their business more seriously. The most part of that involves hard work of course, and a greater degree of self-awareness - but the advice in this book will really help, especially around the emotional states; putting more 'Why' in your business; and how you connect with your clients.

Transformed my approach to business and life. A must read for any creative!
Excellent read. As a designer, I've always struggled with the balance of doing the work that paid the bills and sourcing the kind of work that I previously used to love. Ultimately, after a few years working as a freelancer, I quickly started to realise that performing work I *wanted* to do - the work that inspired me and made me fall in love with design - was a diminishing reality.Create and Prosper influenced me to entirely reassess my approach to finding client work. Instead of snatching at the immediate work opportunities that I knew would pay the bills - work that deep down I knew I wouldn't enjoy - I was inspired to look at my business creatively. For anyone stuck in a rut, falling out of love with their craft, or anxious about receiving the next invoice, this book is for you. The author balances theory, personal experience and practical advice in a well articulated and succinct way.Chapters can be read independently to provide bite sized advice (useful if you struggle to find time to be able to tackle books effectively in one go), and can ultimately act as your reassessment guide for keeping on track for doing the work that you find truly fulfilling.

Every chapter is packed full of insights, strategies, tools and examples -can't recommend it enough!
This is a book that you don't just read once, but at least 3 or 4 times, as it quickly becomes part of your toolkit as a freelancer. I've recently made a few small changes to my business and the way I view it, based on this book, and as a result, I'm already doing more work with the clients I want to work with, and getting paid more, and that's just the beginning! This book makes you think about your own values and what you really want from your business, and then it takes you through a process of how to get it - so be prepared to take action! An extremely practical book, full of so much insight. A must-read for any freelancer who feels that something is missing - whether it's to do with purpose, money or clients.

Powerful, action focused and concise
Not just another business book. I was impressed with how much value and strategy is packed into such a concise and enjoyable read. I found the book pulled me in from the start which is unusual as I usually find business books a bit dry. The book is more than just about building a successful business. It's about building a successful life, a fulfilling life - one that leaves you well paid and creatively satisfied... I know from experience it can be hard to make the 2 go hand in hand. I'd recommend this book not just to creatives, but to business owners who feel like they've lost passion for what they do... and also for people who are looking to find their 'ikigai'.Thanks to the Author
