Yes it does work but dont use the training ball, get a couple of balls from amazon or modells for about 5 bucks and use those, just keep the training ball close so you can see what pitch you want to throw, but dont use the training ball, it starts to fade after a couple hundred pitches. Good luck

What ages are these for?

First of all, baseballs are the same weight for all ages - 5 ounces. Secondly, it doesn’t appear this ball demonstrates how to throw the only off-speed pitch a youth player should ever though….a change up! So you need to be at least close to high school age to use it and when they get to that age they need to have a real pitching coach teach them how to properly throw a curve and/or slider, not printed markings on a ball and some poorly executed instructions sheet. The biggest concern is injury but also if they aren’t throwing them right, it doesn’t matter where they grip it, it still won’t break. And pitchers need to get a feel for the specific grip that they can control and get the best action out of which is likely not going to be what’s printed on the ball. Watch some of the pitching ninjas conversations with MLB pitchers - they all have slightly different grips for throwing the same pitches. As for the 4 seam and two seam markings, some pitchers like their pointer finger and middle finger touching when they grip a ball, some prefer a slight gap (such as a pencil’s width) between those fingers, some a little more. The finger placement varies even more with younger pitchers depending on their hand size and grip strength. Some of them even need 3 fingers to get a proper 4 seam grip. Lastly this ball doesn’t appear to show thumb placement which is also critical (and a variable preference as far straight or bent 90 degrees) to throw the pitch correctly. Set your money aside and save up for pitching lessons instead. Your pitcher will be much better with a much healthier arm.

What is the weight of this ball?

Not sure what the weight is, but I believe it's just a normal baseball with the markings on how to throw different pitches. Works well for me !

Can a lefty use this?

Yes, I believe the finger patterns are the same.
