Can you leave them plugged in and seated in the charger after they are charged?

The charger LED go from red to green when fully charged. I have left them on for a few hours extra and detected no extra heat. So I think the charger or batteries are smart enough to stop charging. Lithium has a low self discharge so I don't see any benefit to leaving them plugged in after they're fully charged.

Their capacity is maybe on the order of 400 mAh. Actual capacity depends on the current value and the temperature. At higher current values the capacity is always smaller. And of course it varies some by manufacturer. this manufacturer rates these as 850mAh ......?

How long does it take to charge the batteries? Mine have been charging for 12 hours and still flashing red lights.

The 9V batteries come with an initial charge (although how full I do not know). I remember placing them in the charger overnight, so I can't speak to when exactly they reached a full charge? I would recommend that you unseat the batteries and then slowly re-seat them. I found that it worked best if I did so in a rocking motion: one edge in place and then rock forward until firmly seated. Perhaps they're not fully connected? Otherwise, contact Hixon customer service in the event you have a defective charger and they need to replace.
