Cost per page is very low and all works as it should
I've had this for 2 years now and have to say wow. It works flawlessly. The ink lasts for a very long time and prints perfect and fast. It has a lot of easy options that just work. Scan to usb, computer etc is great. The wifi works great and has huge paper trays that last a long time. I would buy again but it will be many years. The last one I had from this company lasted many many years.

Really Great Printer!
I purchased the Epson ET-5880 for our small office to fulfill our need for a good color printer. I read a number of a reviews about the printer before making the purchase. Most were positive, so I went ahead and ordered the printer. I'm very pleased with this printer. I had no problem connecting it to our network. Installing the drivers on four computers was easy as well. I should note that the printer comes with a CD for installation, but I chose to use the NEWER drivers that were on Epson's website instead. You should do that as well. Filling the ink tanks on the printer was very simple. Not so much as a drop of ink was spilled. The ink bottles are keyed so that one cannot put the wrong color ink in a tank no intended for that color. Once filled, the unit goes through a charging process (Epson's term) to get ink to the print heads. Yes, it uses a little ink, but Epson also supplied a second set of ink bottles so that the ink tanks are full after the charging process. The printing is very fast, yielding high quality print. I suggest using 22 or 24 pound paper, especially if printing on both sides of the paper. I was particularly interested in seeing how this printer would handle scanning. I do a lot of two-sided scanning. The scanning software, SCAN 2 and SCANSMART, both worked well. SCAN 2 gives the user lots of options, but might be overwhelming to a newer user. The SCANSMART software is more visual and gives the user enough features to adjust and/or crop images as needed. The software does provide the option of creating a searchable PDF file, which is something I like as I deal in contract documents. Of course, one can print from a cell phone or tablet if desired. There's even a remote print feature where one can print via email from anywhere where there's an Internet connection. Overall, I'm pleased with this printer. It's not inexpensive, but it will easily meet the needs of a small office.

Error handling is extremely poor
This printer will throw errors even though things are working. Some examples are: 1) Printing from an Apple device you will get a “printer busy“ error, even though the print goes through. 2) When connecting to Wi-Fi, the printer will send a “password incorrect” error message, even though it connects to the Wi-Fi. 3) The windows desktop application cannot find the printer, even though you can print to it from that same machine. When calling Epson for Support, you will find people who insist you do things like go through the WPS procedure even though you tell them your router does not support WPS. You will be forced to go through steps until they say something like “now press the WPS button on the router“ when they will agree with you that your router does not support WPS. They will also take you a very long way to get to a ping command because that is what their documentation tells them to do, even if you’re well aware of how to start a ping in a much quicker way. Print quality and speed seem to be very good but, at this price point, the error handling issues and lack of adequate support are unacceptable. The result in a lot of frustration, wasted time and wasted paper/ink.

Eco tank love
Took a while and still working on all its functions. A little difficult for me to set up and way to pricey. Have forms others that are a lot cheaper. Should have done more research. Print quality is good. Not as smooth producing copies but could be program I’m printing from. Real plastic feel to it. Wish was a lot more sturdy. Like I say way to pricey what I paid.

Very nice and fast printer, but some info...
The printer is nice and very fast printing regular documents in color or black and white. Printing photos is slower but still pretty faster than other printers I have seen. The model I purchased was the ET-5850, it came with 2 sets of full size ink bottles. When you set up the printer one set will fill the tanks. You think run through setup on the display and it will take 9 minutes to prime the system. This is initially getting the ink from the tanks to fill the empty tubes to the print heads. When this is done (takes 9 minutes) the tanks will be ½ full. Good thing you have the second set. The size in the images shows the depth of the printer to be 31 inches, it's not, it's about 19 inches with the back tray closed and the output tray retracted. Installing the driver way very simple. I did not use the driver disc as I'm running the latest OS on my computers. My Mac's all found the printer and set them up. (Note: I run in dark mode on my computers and when the driver installs it as the back version of the printer for the icon we is very hard to see in dark mode. I was able to change it to the image that matched the color my printer, but that takes some under the hood tinkering.) Both of my Windows computers also found and set up the printers without any issue. You can also set up an email address for your printer that people can email you documents to it. The Epson website gives you a lot of control over this. You can change to a custom name before the @ in the address or use the random one they picked. You can also limit who can send to your printer. That is something that I liked on my old HP this one replaced. Two items that I think they need to fix: The output tray comes out automatically when you start to print. It does not retract automatically, there is a symbol on the control panel that you tap to get it to retract. They should have made it so that when you take what was printed that it automatically retracts as it sticks out pretty far. The web interface isn't great. If you have ever used the web interface for a commercial copier, then you know what I mean. For example, when putting in contacts for faxing/scanning/emailing, the interface doesn't allow you to put in email addresses. There is an option to select the type of contact, fax, email, etc, but if doesn't give you a box to put in the email address. If you add the entry on the display for the device its self then you can put in the email. You can then go back to the web interface and edit the entry and the email address. Crazy right. Luckily I didn't have many to put in. If they could five those two items I would give it 5 stars. I'm going to email Epson my thoughts and see what happens.

Beautiful print quality, easy wireless set up.
Easy wireless set up, super quality photo and standard printing. Like the amount of pages it is supposed to get from a refill. Only aggravating thing is setting up the paper type/ tray selection. It seems to always switch back to photo glossy and require resetting. Getting the right settings wasn't easy.

Very Happy we found a reliable printer and its not HP
Being a HP Officejet customer for years was sheer anger and frustration. Duplex scanning with the ADF never worked right and got stuck 80% of the time. The Epson works great, is fast and very quiet for its size. The print quality is not laser jet - but its not far off. This is a small business replacement for a HP Officejet and HP Laserjet. The biggest deal for us was the cost of ink. Its getting out of control - Epsons refillable tanks are EASY to refill and wow, they seem to last forever.

High price point and quarks
I ordered an Epson ET-5850 from Amazon on 1/27/2023 and it arrived on 1/28/2023. After several tests, I determined on 1/28/2023 that the printer rendered “banding” on all standard quality print outs on any paper thicker than normal copy paper. I worked with Epson tech support for two days to troubleshoot on Monday 1/30/2023 and Tuesday 1/31/2023. The tech and I, of course, went through the prescribed print alignment and print quality adjustments, but to no avail. The Epson representative determined that the printer was experiencing “hardware failure” and put the order in to send out another printer to me. The replacement printer arrived on 2/2/2023 at approximately 5:15pm. I unboxed the replacement printer and noticed that it was black instead of white like the original printer. Additionally, the model number for the replacement was ET-5850U. I thought nothing of that difference as I assumed Epson had sent me a comparable printer as a replacement. I then boxed up the defective printer and applied the return label to the package. Next, I set up the replacement printer and charged the ink as directed. After all was completed, I received an error message of 950143 from the printer (replacement printer). The error message indicated there was a problem with the “ReadyPrint” account which I don’t have and don’t want. I determined I had been sent the wrong printer as a replacement. Basically, I received an ET-5850U instead of an ET-5850. At that point in the evening, Epson representatives had gone home. I had to wait until the next to call back. The next day I spent two hours on the phone waiting on the representative to clear with management that they in fact had sent me the wrong replacement printer. So, I had to use the same return label (printed twice) to send back both printers. Keep in mind that this printer is big and especially awkward when it is boxed. I had to lug both printers to FedEx drop offs. Eventually, on February 6, 2023 I received yet another ET-5850, but this one was refurbished. I paid for a new printer obviously, but after all of my drama I got a refurbished printer. I was assured by the tech that it was refurbished to meet Epson quality standards. I'm not sure what that means any more. After using the printer for a week (New-New-Not so new printer), I have determined that the printer still prints the lines and bands at standard quality on paper thicker than standard copy paper. Yes, I put the paper in the appropriate cassettes. Cassette 2 is for standard paper only, whereas cassette 1 and the back loaded paper tray is for other types of media. What I have determined in summary... ->The ET-5850 doesn't print well on card stock or envelopes at standard quality. Granted those problems (banding and lines) go away at the High quality setting. Q: Why not print at high quality for those type of media? A: I suppose I'll have to now. The selling point for me for the ET-5850 was the ink savings and speedy pages-per-minute. At high quality, the speed reduces considerably. This makes a big difference when you're printing offering envelopes or custom raffle tickets by the thousands. Additionally, how much more ink am I using at high quality? This could negate the ink consumption savings. I haven't had the pinter long enough to speak on that. -> The quality of the ET-5850 is good on standard copy paper and good at the *high* quality setting when printing on cardstock. -> Printer can be very fussy about paper mismatches. I can live with this, but it is annoying. -> When printing about 150 envelopes (#6 3/4 envelopes not the usual #10) the software often assumed I had a paper jam when I had only run out of envelopes in the cassette. It often misinterpreted a lack of envelopes as a jam. The only way I was able to clear that paper jam message was to load more envelopes (of course) and pull the back compartment out and push the back compartment back in to trick the software into thinking I had cleared a non-existent paper jam. If you don't do that, the OK button does not appear on the screen to continue, and your only alternative would be to cancel the entire print job and run back to your computer to resend it. This is fine if you're not printing hundreds of things. ->From time to time when envelopes got low, the paper grabber would grab the envelope and mishandle it which led to actual jams in that case. -> I did a side-by-side comparison of speed versus the HP 9025e (approx $400) which I purchased directly from HP. It was sad how much faster the HP printed than the ET-5850. Granted, the Epson was set to high quality, so it wouldn't ruin my printouts with the aforementioned banding. The print quality for the Epson at high quality versus the HP at standard quality is almost identical with the Epson getting the slight edge. The Epson should win in a high quality versus standard quality matchup, right? ->If you do "everyday" type of printouts then you might be okay with the ET-5850. ->If you do advanced work with cardstock or envelopes, then you'd be better off going with something way cheaper. The actual price point for this printer should be around $600, in my opinion -> The manufacturing of the ET-5850 could use some improvement. The software should be more user-friendly. -> The ink filling process is simple and clean. Epson got that part right. I settled on buying this printer for three reasons. 1. Ink Tank savings 2 Advertised pages-per-minute speed 3. My great experience with an Epson photo printer: XP-15000 (Absolutely fantastic - but that would require another review). Overall, I'm underwhelmed and disappointed with the ET-5850, but I will try to make the best of it. In hindsight, I may have been better off just sending the printer back to Amazon and saving myself the trouble with the Epson process.
