Reliable Fire Starter for the Backcountry
These igniters are a must-have on the trail. I bought one for my first big backpacking trip in Colorado, and it gave me peace of mind knowing I didn’t have to rely on a finicky lighter. I use it to light my MSR mini stove, and it works perfectly. It’s super lightweight and even fits inside a compact cook setup—no need to carry the bulky case if you’re trying to go ultralight. Just be sure to bring a backup, as always.

Great for Jetboil backpacking stove
I purchased this to use with my JetBoil backpacking stove on a recent hike on the Appalachian trail. Since I was using air travel I could not bring my usual cheap butane lighter and decided to give this a try. The biggest trick that I had to learn was that I had to ensure that I held the ignitor vertically so that the gas would rise into the opening where the spark will ignite the gas. It worked successfully each time I used it though it did sometimes take several clicks. My biggest complaint it the loop for a lanyard on the side was too small and it took some time to locate a strong but small cord that I could loop through it and hang around my neck when I wasn't using or storing the ignitor. It's small and would be very easy to misplace especially in the woods.

Works on MSR Windburner IF YOU KNOW HOW!
I purchased MSR Windburner along with this igniter. To my disappointment, the igniter did not work at all. Amazon sent me a replacement for the igniter, but it worked only 3 out of 10 times. I was very disappointed and frustrated, figured it could be worse in cold and alpine conditions where I planned to use. Incidentally the MSR Windburner fire pattern draw my attention: it had 3 nickel sized bright spots (see attached photo). I think those are the gas outlets. Then I tested by pointing (touch) igniter directly at where the bright spots were, now the fire starts 10 out of 10 times. Even the first igniter worked this way. So if this igniter does not work with your MSR Windburner, use a match to light up Windburner, remember the bright spots' location, and try again using method I described above. The tests I performed was at 54ºF no wind. I might update this post after experiencing more adversarial conditions.

Perfect and fits in the PocketRocket container.
I'm brand new to using the PocketRocket camping/backpacking stove, so take my review from that perspective, as a new user to this type of camping stove.I was looking for a "lighter" that was convenient, small and packable to carry with the stove. This and the PocketRocket fit perfectly in the case. The lighter is a piezo electric "spark". No fuel in the lighter and no flame. It generates a spark with each push or "Click" of the button. Simply hold it where you light the stove, turn on the gas and click to light. Any downsides??? I suppose the only downside I can think of is you cannot use it where you might need an actual flame for something. It couldn't be better for lighting the stove in my opinion.

Not a sturdy or consistent enough arc to light anything
I am a big fan of *working* piezo igniters, but this one is just outright bad. It barely makes any spark, and completely failed to light isobutane on multiple attempts.

Small area to Catch Fuel
The media could not be loaded. The spark is small and quick, I guess it has to catch just the fuel just right to ignite. Works best with the burner set to medium or low intensity, without wind.
