Great office phone with a few quirks
I got this phone to use in my home office. The main things I was looking for were great speakerphone performance and a mute button as I spend lots of time on conference calls and needed a way to simply leave them on speakerphone and mute for when I'm not actively talking. For the speakerphone portion I knew I wanted a phone that required separate AC power as the phones that try to power the speaker phone simply off the phone line power aren't very good. This phone does use the separate AC power adapter and the speakerphone works great. The speaker is nice and loud and I never have complaints from people on the other end when I am talking on speakerphone. The mute button is right along the bottom of the phone making it easy to access. My only complaint with the mute button is that it doesn't have any indication to show that it is enabled. The speakerphone button has a nice red LED light next to it to show that the speakerphone is on. It would have been nice if the mute button had a similar light to let you know when you have mute on. As it is the only indication that the phone is muted is via a "MUTE" notice on the main LCD display at the top of the phone. Unfortunately the display at the top of the phone can't be angled up at all so it lays almost flat with the phone, and at the same time it is not backlit at all. This means that the display is VERY hard to read when you are sitting at your desk. You have to lean forward until your head is almost directly above the phone in order to read the display, and thus tell if you have mute on or off.The phone allows two lines to be used and also has a conference call button to connect both lines together. It also has a headset input so you can easily attach a headset if you'd prefer to use that instead of the speakerphone or handset. The white strip down the side of the phone looks similar to a speed dial list on other phones, but that's not what it is for on this phone. This phone can actually be used as part of a multiple phone setup for your small office or even in your house if you want. You will need to install this same model of phone in all areas but once you do you can assign each phone an extension number and then call between the phones directly or page through the remote phones. This makes a nice little intercom system without requiring an actual central phone system. I don't use this feature since I just have a single phone but it seems like a nice addition.Overall I am pleased with the phone. The lack of a light on the mute button is a slight annoyance but honestly I couldn't find any other phones with the features I wanted so I can live with it.If you're looking for a desk phone with a good speakerphone then you should really consider this model.

I couldn't be happier!
I originally bought this phone because I work from home and I purchase a lot of plantronics devices. I purchase the headsets, the phone amplifiers and much more. The phones I have purchased in the past did not work with the plantronics devices and it wasn't until I called customer service at plantronics that the agent there told me that all their devices have been tested on these phones, Panasonic KX. Well, the agent was correct. I am in love with this phone. I work from home and this phone is awesome. In fact, I bought a back up in case something was to happen to the phone on my desk such as I accidentally knock it off, which I have done in the past. I'm clumsy. Although the phone does have features that I will not use, I do have the capability of using them if I want to and the instructions that come with it are so easy to set it up are ridiculous.

Poor service
I am very disappointed with the product and product support. I bought the units primairly for the intercom capability and can not get all four to communicate with each other (only three) I have been E-mailing and talking with Panasonic almost daily with no success. The individuals that I deal with appear to be reading from a script after you tell them the problem. If I still had the boxes I would return them. Very frustrating. I paid for a telephone wiring technican to inspect all the lines which check out OK. The telephones work fine. If you can help my case number is 29555167. A dissaatisfied customer

Missing important features
I'm sorry that I did not read the other reviews carefully enough. In particular, pay attention to John P Benson's. I could not believe what he said was true, but it is: 1) There is no light that comes on when another phone on the same line is in use. John says it only works with another phone of the same model. I can't confirm that. 2) There are only 3 buttons to program with phone numbers. You see all those buttons on the side? Those are for intercom extensions! (There is a 50 number directory that you can get at by pushing more buttons)Unmentioned on John's review, but a showstopper for me: There is no detection of phone-company voicemail (stutter dial tone). I probably should have noticed that it was not called out explicitly, but who would guess that a reasonably expensive fancy phone would not have that?Annoyances: By default it will pick a free line when you call out. But one of my lines is my office with unlimited calling features, while the other is my home where I pay for each call. I don't want to be talking for 2 hours to someone on the other side of the world before realizing that I'm on the wrong line! You can set it to go to a particular line, but I think if you do that, it does not switch to the ringing line when you answer. (I was packing it back up before I had a chance to try, I admit). It also insists on going to speakerphone when you push a line button to choose the line you wish to pick up. Sigh. And finally, a minor annoyance: Caller ID does not set the time and date unless you have already set it. (Huh? I don't get that one!)The phone appears to be solidly built. There is a significant instruction book with it. I called their 800 number to confirm that I was really right about these features and they were very helpful (but said I was right). But especially the missing voicemail light is going to make me return it.
