One Year Report
This listing contains multiple B&D products. My review is for the 20V MAX String Trimmer/Edger Kit- LSTE525.I purchased this trimmer to replace a 21-year-old B&D "Grass Hog" trimmer/edger. The old Grass Hog had given faithful service but advancing battery technology had left it behind and it was beginning to emit some concerning noises. This replacement has exceeded my expectations. The important thing for me is it falls in the sweet spot of powerful but not destructive to sprinkler heads. Battery duration is more than adequate for me. Ergonomically it is spot on, and the string advancement button actually works. To be clear... I Do Not consider this a weed whacker. It's a lawn trimmer/edger period.I do my cordless weed whacking with a Milwaukee M18 Fuel unit that is a beast (in a good way).

Good machine
Iโve had one of these for SEVEN years. It had a lot of use. A few years ago, the batteries would only give about 10 minutes of charge each. I purchased two higher capacity batteries (not black and decker). These are still working very well. This year, the string would not feed out, so I ordered the same model again. I was getting ready to dispose of the old one, when I noticed that the small metal eyelet that fed out the string had a deep groove in it. I took a flat screwdriver, and turned the Eyelet 90 degrees. Now, it works great again..Perhaps the old one will last another 5 or 6 years!I am returning the new one.

WORKS GREAT
Trimmer arrived on time, the 2 new batteries take about 4 hours each to charge new out of the box.Battery life is only fair but you get 2 with the machine and a charger. The trim string does not last very long when operating the machine but the push button at the handle to increase length is great. To adjust machine to trim the driveway or side walk is easy.I'm not sure how long a spool of string will last so maybe pick up an extra one.Over all it is a good machine and I would recommend.

Replacement for the B&D mulching lawn mower I purchased in 2017
Set up was easy. Performance is good. It is heavier than the B&D trimmer and lawnmower cart I bought in 2017 replaces because the cart bed had died, but that is OK. Biggest problem is that I can't set it up to run continuously, so I waste a lot of energy punching the restart button. This is very hard on my arthritic hands. Spring performance is slow, but good. Note that if grass is long, you will need to double-mow against any grass that has been pushed down by the wheels and left long. Also, if grass is wet, you will need to stop occasionally and clean the cart and trimmer of accumulated grass. (Just pull the accumulated grass off and toss it into a nearby garden bed as " fertilizer bomb.")5/25/23 This is a supplement to my earlier review. I have been using this for three weeks. One of the included batteries won't take a charge. I hadn't noticed this before because I have two 20 volt batteries and a fast charger, so rarely use the smaller size batteries delivered with this trimmer. However, grass is now growing so fast that it needs cutting twice a week and the two 20 volt batteries are exhausted before trimming can be completed. Thus the failure of one of the included batteries is a pain. But it isn't worth sending the whole set back just to get a replacement battery. The trimmer has two speeds. I haven't discovered any use for the slow speed. I have to stop and clean out the trimmer bed frequently because it becomes embedding in chopped grass, and starts leaving a trail of mash-together grass clippings. Hopefully, the trimmer and the cart that I purchased with it for use as a mulching mower, will do better when the grass stops growing so fast.

Battery life leaves you frustrated.
I absolutely love this little weed eater. It is light is efficient it does the job well but I hope you strap on your patience. The batteries do not last long at all maybe 15 to 20 minutes if that. However, itโs very convenient that it comes with two batteries so you can charge one and work with one.

Good Deal!
Not a fan of cordless as a rule but decided to give this a try as was tiredof hauling a cord all over the yard. Decent battery life and enough "oomph"for most all over growth

Definite upgrade from basic unit
The edging roller is a much appreciated feature as is the push button line feeder. I'm replacing a B&D 10 inch trimmer. This unit is a definite upgrade.

Easy To Use And Cuts Grass
The media could not be loaded. ย This is my 2nd weed trimmer I bought in the last 6 weeks. The first one is a "heavy to lift" gas engine with brush cutting blades and the spool for grass cutting. I used it a few times and decided that I should get another one just for grass cutting. After looking at many battery models and reading reviews I decided that this may be the one. Now there were some cheaper ones while this one comes with two batteries and that is a nice feature. So what do I like about this weed trimmer? The fact that one just plugs in a battery and presses a button and away you go. No mixing gas, and often struggling to get started as with a gas engine type.I also like the โpush a buttonโ feature when more string is needed. Way better than the "bump to the ground" ones that never seem to work. Of course, this one is way lighter than a gas model. However, after 15 minutes oneโs arm does get a bit tired as one has to continuously hold the trimmer off the ground and not skating on the ground. I hooked up a harness for mine and now I can go all day.I used it the first time for about 20 minutes and that then took about 2 hours to recharge the battery. After 20 minutes the trimmer still ran as if it had had a freshly charged battery. Manual says to recharge the battery after every use to prolong battery life. One interesting comment in the manual is that spare spools should be stored in an air tight bag with a table spoon of water to prevent the spools and string from drying out. That kind of surprised me.So what do I not like about this trimmer. It has very thin plastic line about half the size of my gas engine one, and the line gets frayed pretty easily and I would deduct that the 30 feet of line gets used way faster than on a gas engine type with the heavier line. I also would have preferred that there were two lines exiting the spool and not just one thin line. However, it does cut grass pretty nicely and even thicker grass. I was also not expecting it to be as loud as it is.I found that if one is cutting grass that is close to a wall, the little wheel hits the wall first and as such one cannot cut the grass that is close to a wall. I discovered the best way to cut grass close to a wall is to angle the trimmer, so the little wheel is no longer in front.Overall, the assembly which was almost nothing, was easy and for a battery trimmer, I would think itโs as good as any in this price range and would recommend it. Shipping was one day sooner than the earliest date and that is appreciated.

Perfect
I can't praise this enough.Pros:lightweightPowerfulEasy to useGreat battery lifeCon: I wish it would extend a few inches moreThis is the easiest to use weed whacker I've ever had. I have a pretty big property on a corner lot. It takes me about 2hrs to do the lawn, 30mins if using this. 1 battery gets me the entire yard done. If I need to clear out some thick weeds in the ditch, I may use the 2nd battery but I've never used both batteries completely. The batteries charge pretty fast. I'd guess 2hrs ish.Perfect for anyone unless you have over 2 acre maybe.

They're charging me $23.22 to return it
I bought this because my old one was a Black & Decker and I figured it should be fine. But upon receiving it, I noticed that the batteries are only 1.5 AH and that the trimmer cord only comes out one side. It also feels poorly balanced, with too much weight down at the trimmer head.So I dug around for more reviews and there were enough negative reviews to convince me that I'm better off buying something of higher quality. And Amazon is charging me $23.22 to return it, so I'll buy another one somewhere else. Otherwise I would have bought another one from Amazon.

I LIKE SOME THINGS ABOUT THIS ITEM BUT I ENDED UP RETURNING IT
I liked the way it handled, it was light, the wheel very helpful for edging but the negative ended up outweighing the positive. I found that the machine seemed a bit underpowered. I did only use it on speed 1 and then reason was because the batteries don't last that long. With edging I got 12 minutes on one battery and 10 on the other. That would not even do down my driveway and along the road. I cant imagine how bad it would be on 2, maybe 8 and 6 ? the other problem is that the battery charger is tiny and it takes for ever to charge the battery when it dies. Another issue, as we know, all of these batteries degrade with time, again, what would I be getting for time next year ?Sad to say, not worth it for me and did not suit my needs. Good if you have a tiny yard.

Great Trimmer/Edger
I love this trimmer/edger. I've had electric ones and gas powered ones and sooner or later they all failed. Especially the gas powered ones. The small engines need constant maintenance, they gum up with the gas sitting over the seasons. The electric cord was a nuisance. This baby is perfect. Powerful, and long lasting batteries. Easy to feed the string. I highly recommend this trimmer. I couldn't believe the edging that it created on my lawn. I didn't think it would actually cut down as far as I required especially with old tough grass, but it did an amazing job. Easy to maneuver and switch from trimmer to edger. The two batteries is bonus in case the first one runs out but if your lawn is average, the one should do it. Very happy I bought it. :-)
