ZEROplus Telescopic Friction Stay for Doors 700-910mm Wide, All Metal Restrictor, Silver/Grey, Z107/RUZT150SE

I fitted this to an outward opening door from my garden office, that was previously restricted by several cabin hooks. The video shows it in action. At a stroke, I can now open the door to any amount I want and it stays there (apart from in very high winds, apparently) so it's much more useful. Took about 30 minutes. Fitting is easy once you have deciphered the rather cramped instructions. I found it easier to mount the frame foot first, then fix it to the door, but if you do this you will have to remove the frame foot temporarily to get the second screw into the door fitting. This extra step only took 1 minute and I found it more intuitive to do it this way. As others have commented there is a small amount of noise when opening the door (it is a FRICTION fit) but no more than a normal patio door opening. I don't find it unacceptable at all. You can easily adjust the amount of friction that is exerted, so on really windy days I'll dial it up a bit to see how that works. Suggestions for manufacturer: use both sides of the paper for instrutions, one for outward opening, the other for inward opening. That way you can make the font bigger and the drawings clearer too. I was really hesitant about paying so much for a fairly simple (albeit unique) item, and I hope it means high quality components were used in the making! Recommend to a friend: Yes Buy again: Yes

It works as a restrictor. Fine. But the instructions are of very little help. I nearly sent it back, but eventually worked out how to place it, mainly thanks to a review comment and a photo in the advert. More noisy than expected when opening door. And looks more industrial than expected. But it works to restrict the door opening.

I wanted a window fastener that wouldn’t rattle in the wind and this seemed to fit the bill. Something both good or bad in equal measure is that it is made of metal and as such is very heavy, a bit of overkill for my window casement. Dainty it is not.

Friction door stays like this have been fitted to every vessel I served on board for decades but I could never find them on shore; not even places where they sell door funiture for trades people. Finally, after some 20 years of searching, found this ZEROplus on Amazon. I am sure it has been only been made available here recently as I am certain it wasn't in Amazon's inventory during the pandemic when doing DIY has become virtually a full time job. OK, this was a test purchase for the new workshop shed I am putting together. Works well. Came across a note in the printed blurb regards high winds. Yes, it makes physics sense that the user has to balance how well the stay can keep the door open on windy days versus how mush friction to adjust the stay; it's not going to be one setting suit everybody. Finally I shall be able to do something about the 20+ windows and 15+ doors about the place to stop them banging during windy days because thicko people around the house can't understand basic physics about draughts and slamming doors on windy days. These are made of metal and of good quality and build. A pleasure to see these days that they have gone for quality of materials and build that work well and will last. Does the job well, easy to adjust the tension, great product all round.
