Q: What kind of glass is this bottle made out of ? Is it strong enough to withstand very hot water right after boiling?

No, they cannot withstand hot water I just purchased them and trie sanitizing with just 1 cup of boiling water and one of the jars cracked. Must look for borosilicate glass which can handle heat 200 degrees over boiling point .

One gallon does not weigh 128 ounces. A gallon is 128 FLUID OUNCES, its a volume. Although the conversion is very close. One gallon of WATER weighs 8.33 pounds which is equal to 133.28 ounces. Please know the difference between weight and volume.
