OKONATUR 100% Extra Virgin Red Palm Oil - 16 Fl Oz

Good flavor, high carotenoid, 200% RDA vitamin A on the label. Received plastic bottle, and as other have noted the seal is pretty poor and i hope to see this improve in the future. Seller bagged in ziploc in case of spill. Oil tastes really earthy and really is quite tasty in my opinion. I had only tasted nutiva brand before, and it is only 80% rda vitamin A so significantly more refined. Flavor of nutiva was mildly carroty but more like a coconut oil in texture. Okonatur is a little more fluid and much better red color. Plenty of nutritious sediment for my macaw, who i bought this for, but it is so good tasting i might have some from time to time!

On the arrival the oil was licking through the lid. The seal came off the jar together with a lid. The oil has a rancid smell.

Arrived today and contrary to many reviews stating faulty packaging and leaky product on arrival, mine arrived wrapped in bubble wrap and was not leaking. I had never tried red palm oil before but found the taste quite palpable and not too bad, albeit different. Mostly it tastes like carotene to me and I had no trouble taking one tablespoon as suggested.

I use this product for my hair it has all the vitamins I need is great for my pre poo this is a awesome oil sure you can use it for any thing else you might need this type of oil for its great.

I had been reading that Red Palm Oil [not Palm Kernel Oil] is the healthiest oil of all oils for several reasons, but it has a taste and smell ["earthy" according to some] all its own and takes a bit of getting used to. I learned to tolerate quickly and found it delicious in many foods, including frying eggs. What made me a true believer was when I thinly sliced sweet potatoes in a mandoline slicer [from Amazon] and fried them in the oil and topped them with sea salt, they were delicious. The flavors perfectly complimented each other and I'm convinced it was a wonderfully healthful treat. There are a couple of issues to be addressed; 1. Like coconut oil, it is not a liquid under 76 degrees, therefore it is inconvenient to buy brands that use a small opening since it does not pour out unless the temperature is elevated. Okanatur scored 100% on this since it did come in a wide mouthed glass jar. 2. While I was impressed with the quality and taste of this oil, and it did come in a wide mouthed glass jar, I thought it was somewhat pricey, compared to some of the other brands out there, so I'm still experimenting with brands and quantities. 3. I'm aware that shipping costs are likely part of the reason for the higher price, and I didn't see that Okanatur had other sizes available. I have just ordered 2 quarts [64 ounces] in wide mouth glass jars on sale now from Tropical Traditions at $41, including shipping. This means that Okanatur is 88 cents per ounce and Tropical Traditions is 64 cents per ounce when it's on sale. I expect similar qualities in the two oils since I'm quite familiar with TT's Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. It's due to arrive today so if I determine otherwise I will update this review.

Attempting to change my eating habits brought me to suggestions of red palm oil, and of course, to Amazon!! I am very pleased with this purchase. I can't attest to price as I'm not familiar with the product and obviously if it was found cheaper it might also be adulterated oil. I was surprised at the taste as well, since some reviews mentioned that. I don't have a problem with the taste or smell and don't see it to be that much different compared to other oils. It's worked great for everything I've used it with so far. The only real drawback I can see to this is the staining ability..it is RED, very red and not something you want to get on your clothes!

I love okonatur red palm oil. However, the one packaged and shipped by Amazon comes in an unsealed plastic jar that is leaking when it arrives. I have had to send items back twice. I order the one packaged by okonatur which comes in a sealed glass jar. Never have had to send the sealed glass jar back. The one I get that is packaged by the company gets a 5 star. The actual product is excellent.

I tried this oil and it is a fine oil. It is different from other oil and does have a different flavor when cooking. I tried a small bottle and keep it in the refrigerator. It is a something I would use sparingly until you get used to cooking with it and the flavor. Glad I tried it!
