The Highly Engaged Classroom: The Classroom Strategies Series (Generating High Levels of Student Attention and Engagement)

I read this book because engagement is the new flavor of the month in education, and I want to be familiar with the jargon. A great deal of renaming basic, well-known pedagogical principles. If you've been in the classroom for several years, this book is too long as a refresher of things you know you should be doing. Primarily written for and more appropriate for secondary. Examples of teachers applying the author's suggestions seem very stilted. Good book for those new to the classroom.

This book is user friendly and is a tool that will be helpful when student teaching and beyond. I am a Resource Teacher and I like to keep books like this available to my co-workers. It is always good to challenge your mind and teaching skills.Thank You~

This book basically gathers information from other studies and combines them in one place, which is nice, but there are really no revelations. The ideas are old and most of them I'm already using in my classroom. There are a few good reference lists but those can be found just as easily through a google search. If you're looking for fresh new ideas, choose something else.

This was a second book purchased for my daughter who is in a masters program for special education/general education. This book gives great recommendations, charts, etc to follow to keep students actively engaged in instruction.

Interesting book. I gave it a four because I have not piloted yet with my teachers.

I have read Marzano before and was not too interested or impressed. This has completely changed since I read the last book, because this book has many practical suggestions that I was able to grasp and plan implementing right away. It is well-supported by research.
