Game Changer - Update 3 Years Later
3 Year and Second Baby Update!!: We just had our second born 6 weeks ago and I came back to update this review because I feel that strongly about this pillow. Everything I wrote before still holds true. We are using the exact same pillow that we purchased for our first. It is a little softer but still so much more firm than any other pillow we’ve ever used, the back piece hasn’t kept its perfect shape, but that’s to be expected considering I used it so many times daily for an entire year of feeding my first. Once again I feel like it has saved my breastfeeding journey. If someone asked me, this pillow would hands down be the number one item I recommended someone place on their baby registry. Our son was born with a seriously horrible latch. I was gifted several Boppy pillows at our baby shower. Upon coming home from the hospital I was excited to try them out and see if they aided in positioning and thus his latch. A week of trying to manage those flimsy pillows and both baby and I were FRUSTRATED. I would use two at once, use one with additional pillows on either side, use one with a towel rolled under his head, etc. Baby was uncomfortable from sliding around and constantly being repositioned while trying eat and my nipples were taking a beating from a bad latch made worse by inadequate positioning. A lactation consultant suggested trying the Breast Friend pillow and it immediately changed our breast feeding journey. It didn’t completely solve the latch issues that we were having, but it made both of us comfortable enough that we could easily work through them. The best parts of this pillow include: 1. It attaches to you so you can get situated and prepped and then pick up your little one and place them on you. In comparison, the Boppy does not stay in place whatsoever. Often it would slip off of me or slide while I was seated and nursing- causing baby to slide down and tug at the nipples. 2. It is also a stiffer foam which helps keep baby right where you put them and decreases fatigue on mom’s arms. 3. The pocket is a nice added feature as you can keep nipple shields, cream, pads, etc in there for safe keeping. 4. The lumbar support really does help keep my lower back comfortable when feeding. Food for thought: 1. Our birth was a cesarean and when I first tried this pillow I was 1 week post partum. As to be expected, it was mildly uncomfortable pressing on my abdomen. I suppose you could not tighten the strap as much, but the pillow would not stay on as well. I found that it was mild enough and helpful enough to keep using it. 2. I wish that the fabric was coated with a waterproof liner on the inside. Baby has had two blowouts while eating that have discolored the foam pillow. 3. It is difficult to get the cover on after washing as some others have commented. Just take your time and be patient. The foam around the back lumbar area acts like it could easily tear if manipulated too harshly. 4. The first couple of weeks we exclusively used the football hold. I slid the pillow to be slightly off center to help with this position. Once baby figured out his latch a little better, we switched to cross hold and this pillow became even more comfortable for us. Once Baby gets bigger and has better control of his head and body the Boppy may work better for some. But for right now, we are 5 weeks PP and this pillow continues to be the most used baby item we purchased. While it was pricey for a pillow, I would gladly purchase again for the difference it made in breast feeding.

Love it so much, I bought 3!
I love the My Brest Friend pillow! First of all, it has a back support that feels great. It has a belt buckle that keeps it in place so if I have to move to another spot with my baby, it just sits on my hips while I carry my baby. It's super comfortable and has these bumps on them to pillow your baby's head. Best of all, you can buy the protective cover to protect the foam underneath. If you want cute covers, they have them too. I have both the My Brest Friend and the Boppy, and the My Brest Friend worked best for me and my little one. I loved it so much I bought 2 regular ones (one for upstairs and one for downstairs) as well as an inflatable one for when we travel. They have the bigger super deluxe that I got for my baby shower but it just didn't fit right for me so if this one doesn't work for you, try the other versions.

It is nice and better to use than just a pillow
I was on the fence about ordering this, but with my recovery from c section I took a chance. I do like to use it more than a pillow as it gets the baby more of an upright position. I just surface washed the whole thing instead of taking the cover off bc honestly I feel like I won’t get it back on if I take it off or May rip the foam as several stated in the reviews I read. however I think I would like it better if it didn’t have the wrap around my waist (and can’t use it without it going around the waist) for a couple of reasons. One if I am holding the baby and she decides to eat, it’s a hassle putting on while holding the baby. Or I put it on first and then get the baby but it would be easier to just put on my lap than going around. I have also tried nursing without buckling it and just putting it on but the baby ends up falling inbetween the pillow and my stomach, thus not breast height. Also the height to the breast isn’t exact but definitely better than a pillow bc a pillow baby sinks down and this wraparound is firm tho could use being thicker another inch. Number two - the belt going around is aggravating at my back bc of the foam. I’m not sure why there is foam on the backside and not just the belt - this makes it hard to sit in a recliner or couch if you are going to lean back for back support. If you are in a chair with no support or a stool, then it may help keep your back straight. I honestly would like there to be no padding as I sit most of the time in a recliner or a chair with a back and the back of this pillow gets on my nerves and a little uncomfortable. Number 3. - the material is great and wipes off easy if there is spit up. The pockets - I have yet to use those. I guess I need to but I have found myself grabbing a pillow instead of this pillow a lot just bc of the ease of putting on my lap versus having to snap it around me. Also where the thing goes around and snaps I don’t know how but somehow every time I feel pressure on some tender areas in my stomach from my c section. Maybe that will get better with time. Overall not sure it’s worth the price I paid but I will say if I had to choose between feeding with this and a boppy, it would be this bc a boppy is heavy and I can’t handle the extra weight with the c section. And the “hump” in each side - not really beneficial versus being flat. So if the company making these reads my review, I hope they consider making a little thicker one with no foam at the back and just straps going around if they want it to connect like a belt. That way I can decide if I want to buckle it around the waist or just let the belt hang and put on my lap.

Dollar for dollar, my best baby investment
I bought a My Brest Friend from a flea market for $5, and it has been one of my absolute most valuable purchases. Dollar for dollar, it has outstripped every other baby-related purchase. I have brought this pillow on 13+ hour plane rides, used it to nurse in the front seat of my car while making a pit stop on a road trip, and use it six times a day every day at home. It helps me position my baby in a way I can stand without my arms getting tired or worrying about pillows and blankets slipping from underneath me. I have had an extremely difficult and painful breastfeeding experience, and I would not have been able to continue if I hadn't had this pillow. Pros: 1. Love that it latches around your waist. Pull it tight and use it as a platform for your baby in any sitting or standing position. Much better than a boppy, since you can make sure this one is always at a consistent distance from your breasts. 2. Cover is washable. Get a second cover so that you can switch them out after your baby poops/pees/spits up/drools/excretes some other bodily fluid on them. 3. The slight back support makes it easier for me to get comfortable in unfamiliar chairs. Cons: 1. It's big. It takes up a ton of space on a plane, and is difficult to fit under the seat in front of you. For international flights, get the bassinet even if the baby doesn't like it. Then you can store your Brest Friend in the bassinet. 2. It's so good, it's made it difficult to nurse without it. When I realize I've forgotten it or if there's some reason I just can't bring it somewhere, I find the nursing experience much more stressful. 3. The covers are a freaking pain to get back on once you take them off to wash. The first time I washed it, it probably took me 8 minutes to get the cover back on. I'm down to 2-3 minutes now, but it's still a pain. 4. Some people might like the pocket, but to me it's not really in a position where it's terribly useful. I should really keep burp cloths in there, though, for when I'm out in public. When will I learn? Anyway, I've bought this one for my cousin for her first baby, and even though I paid full price for this one, I feel safe in thinking that it will still be one of the best investments in her nursing comfort.

Highly Recommend
I asked the nurses in the hospital of I should go with this or Boppy. I was advised that this one is better for newborns so they don't slide down and is more secure. (I did end up getting one of each). If you can only choose one- I'd definitely get the my brestfriend. For a couple of weeks my newborn would only nurse if I walked around, I was recovering from a c-section so this pillow helped there because it once strapped tightly it could help bear a little weight so it wasn't all on me (I did make sure to still hold my baby myself so I wouldn't trust that it could bear all weight). I don't know if the raised spots on this one is standard but on either end there is a raised circle like where the baby's head would rest and when I was having to multi-task like eating while nursing, those spots seemed to help support my baby's head in a way to make it more level while nursing so I didn't have to use my hand. The pocket on the side was nice for his pacifier, nipple cream, and other misc items I may need on a whim while nursing. Many people said they didn't understand the pocket's purpose, but that's what I used it for and found it was handy. My baby is now 2 months old and I still use this nightly during the nighttime feeds. It helps me feel more secure when nursing while groggy. As you can see in the photo- my husband also found it helpful when he wanted to game while giving me a break. Haha Very easy to use! Cover is easy to remove and wash! I'm really lazy and literally don't hang dry anything like everyone advises- it did not shrink in the dryer- the clip did make a bit of a ruckus. Get a waterproof cover to go on the pillow directly as it is not waterproof. May sound silly but I didn't not realize this until once it was covered in pee, spit up and milk (we were having a rough day) lol I did love this Lily of the valley pattern, and it was also the lowest cost!

Decent Support, But Not as Convenient as I Hoped
The My Brest Friend Original Nursing Pillow offers good support, and I can see why so many moms love it. It does keep the baby in a comfortable position, and the firmness is nice for maintaining proper alignment during feeds. The side pocket is a helpful touch, and the Midnight Poppy cover looks cute and washes well. However, there are a few drawbacks that make this more of an average experience for me. The pillow is bulkier and heavier than I expected, which makes it awkward to move around the house. The straps can also be a hassle—trying to clip it on while holding a fussy baby is not the easiest task. I also found that the shape doesn’t fit my body as comfortably as I hoped, especially during longer nursing sessions. Overall, it works, but it’s not as convenient or comfortable as I wanted. A decent pillow, but not a must-have for everyone.

Must have for breastfeeding!!
This pillow is amazing for breastfeeding. My daughter was 9lbs at birth as this design allows my daughter to lay flat right in front of me, without having to hold her whole weight with my arms. It’s the only pillow that has worked well for us. I also love that it’s good quality and feels like it will hold up long term.
