What an incredible experience!
This was just such a wonderful, up close look at nature’s infinite wonder’s.Seeing the entire process play out in real time was jaw dropping on numerous occasions. My only concessions are just on the technical side:They don’t provide a way to hang them once they’re all cocooned. We pinned them with safety pins, which felt very precarious, and certainly upset them all during the process. That said, we ultimately got them hung and got to witness their defense response which was fascinating.A warning about the mess their meconium makes after they emerge would have been nice. At first sight, it looked a little like teeny horror scene. But, ultimately easy to clean.

Delightful!
All these years it never occurred to me that I could watch butterflies hatch from right under my nose. I decided to try this out for myself and to show my 2 ferral children how fun this would be. I was more invested in this... And once the butterflies hatched, my cats were more invested. That being said, make sure you find them the safest spot possible and away from cats. I bought this deal, each container had 7 caterpillars. Then to my surprise an extra one, so total 15. One unfortunately fell off while it was in the chrysalis stage and didnt make it. All of them hatched, one was injured due to my wild ginger kitten. I had to battle with my 5 year old as well as she kept opening the zipper and the critters escaped all over the room and there are 3 cats ready to pounce . I also ordered them too early in the season, so make sure its warmer and there be plenty of nectar for them when they get released. Also keep an eye on how fast they hatch cuz I thought I had lots of time before I hung up the cocoons. I released the butterflies 4 days after they hatched and it was barely 55... At least they got a bit of freedom before they succumb to nature.I decided this wasnt for me as it was rather traumatizing with my kids and cats... But now a month later, Im actually wanting to do another batch. Waiting mid summer though. Oh and im a photographer so... Photographing was fun.

An Engaging and Affordable Science Observation for Kids
As a teacher, I'm always looking for exciting and engaging ways to teach content. As we were learning about life cycles, I decided to purchase this butterfly kit. it was very easy to understand the directions, easy to care for the pupa and chrysalis' and thrilling to see our butterflies emerge! Although the description said there would be 5 pupa, ours had 8, which we enjoyed watching. I put the cup with the pupas and their food on a table where we could all observe them. Once they had entered their chrysalis', which they had attached to the paper lid covering the cup, I pinned it to the top of the cage. It was exciting to watch the metamorphosis! One thing to be aware of is that, after they emerge, the butterflies will not only be hungry, as the directions state, but they will also evacuate their systems in the form of red liquid. We are pretty certain this was a sort of "butterfly poop" but, it cleaned up quickly with a wet wipe. Just don't touch the butterflies or pupas with it.
