For a router it's got great speed. It's plug mount
For a router it's got great speed. It's plug mount, so the plug is on the backside of the unit. Most people are likely plugging this directly onto the wall or into a power strip, which is why there are quite a few reviews that say the thing gets hot and has a bad signal. I've plugged mine into an extension cord and placed it on the desk where it gets airflow, so mine is relatively cool as wireless transmitters go. Also I'm not using DHCP, so mine isn't doing as much processing as some of the others. Setup is pretty straightforward for anyone who's ever used a wireless router. You can setup a couple of different speed networks with different SSIDs. The interface on the router is pretty simple to setup once you connect to the IP of the router itself and flip the hardware switches. It's Chinese in origin with an Ralink chipset. They sell these routers under a few different names, Motoraux and LTERiver. Doing a Google search you'll likely find there is no firmware support. My issue with the device is that it misses some basic features: for instance, when setup as an access point it will tell you how many clients are connected, but you can't lookup their IP addresses or MAC addresses in the admin interface. There is no security in terms of trying to lock down your network based on MAC addresses either. While it does use WPA2, it's also an AC1200 router, so that means anyone who happens to get your network address and password will have super fast access to download anything on the network being shared; but you can't tell who they are without other equipment. Wifi cards on different OSes will try to connect to devices that have the same SSID, so spoofing the SSID of the network to capture password is a piece of cake for anyone with 5 minutes and the inclination. If you've got another router that has real security but no wifi, that's likely your best bet with this device, that way you can at least keep people out of your network.

Garbage Device
When the instruction's heading was "HARDWEAR" I thought I might be in trouble. Try typing Motoraux support in Google and you'll see there is no support. So far, the instructions lack clarity and the GUI doesn't have enough granularity. I don't get a good signal in my basement and wanted to extend/strengthen my wireless there. So far I have a few hours in on this thing trying to get it to work. When you set the device to AP mode it doesn't actually act as an access point. It creates a second wireless network (2 if you have dual band). These new 2.4 and new 5G wireless networks will not connect to your current home network if you plug in the LAN CAT 5 port. If you plug into the WAN/LAN CAT 5 port, then you can connect to your home network but you can't get to the internet. I am on to trying the repeater mode, however, this just relaying a weak signal and the speed is slow and the network blinks out. You can't manually change the IP address either. I do networks for a living at my day job and have for over 15 years, so I don't think it's me that's at issue here. I was NOT given this product as a discount so you are actually getting one of the few HONEST reviews here.-Update: it seems to be working on the router setting plugged into the LAN port, it is still another wireless network however it seems to get to my home network and the internet.-Update again, the device would just stop relaying the wireless signal at times, then I found out it won't work past speeds of about 7mbs. I could be the cat5 ports are just for show. I have 4 hours in trying different settings and IT JUST WONT WORK RIGHT! Now they are giving me a hard time returning it. Here is their support email excerpt, "We feel very sorry about the inconvenience caused to you. Could you please kindly unplug the range extender and locate to find a place with better wifi signal? Your great understanding and kindness will be appreciated." Either everyone else is not being honest or the device works fine as a repeater only. idk. Just don't buy it! It SUCKS!

Wouldn't work
I received this item promptly from Amazon and immediately started installing it. I followed the "Quick Start" instructions and I couldn't get it to work. I then searched the Internet and You Tube for help. I tried what I found there but it still wouldn't work. After 3 hours trying to get it to work I gave up and returned it for a different brand.

huge versatility for a low price
Hard to beat all of the options for a device like this at such a low price. Multiple external antennas really provide much better coverage than devices with internal antennas, the data rates on this are on a par with the fastest current hardware and it works as advertised. It's easy enough to set up in one-button mode but if you need more of a custom config, you can patch into it and do that, too. I had read reviews that mentioned it getting hot but I didn't see this on mine.Love it.

It seems to work, but it gets HOT !!!
Just got it today and tried the repeater function. It works fine, and as expected in any repeater/range extender the speeds are divided by 2, but again, this is expected. What concerned me is the operating temperature. I will measure it later, but it is very hot to the touch... not sure whether this is a fire hazard or at least a factor to affect reliability...

High hopes but disappointed
The signal cuts in and out constantly, so it's no better than the weak signal from the modem itself. I ran the setup wizard successfully, all of the indicators say we're connected to the internet, but web pages take 5-10 minutes to load, if they ever do. For the 2 or 3 minutes there is a reliable signal, it's very fast, but that only happens every half hour or so. This is true for multiple devices and operating systems. I had high hopes for this as a repeater, but it's more of a pain than a solution for a weak wifi signal. Maybe it's our Comcast modem, but the wifi signal directly from the modem is consistent and usable when you're in range of it. All the repeater lights are green, so not sure why this doesn't work but quite certain that it doesn't.

The item came quickly and worked just fine. They had some instructions plus good information on the web for setting it up!I used it as an extender and it boosted teh signal strenth quite a bit. Now my devices further away from my main router download much faster. Thanks!
