Works well with some caveats
I purchased this hotplate to see how we liked cooking with induction in anticipation of replacing our range. The Hannex seemed to have a lower wattage setting than others which I thought might be good for simmering. I have been using it about six weeks and these are my observations:* On unpacking, the cooker gave off a very strong smell of the plasticizers that I found very offensive. I left it outside for about a week and the levels reduced to something I could handle indoors. Slowly the levels have continued to go down as the plastics outgassed.* The top is indeed ceramic and has held up well to the light use it has received. As with any glass topped appliance, it takes some elbow grease and care to get a shiny surface.* The cooker has 10 settings with the lowest being 60 watts and the highest 1800. This provides reasonable increments of adjustment to cook at the rate you want.* To adjust the wattage, the controls pulse the induction element on and off a variable amount of time depending on the setting. The problem with this approach is that even on the lowest wattage setting, the element seems to go on full power. This can cause overheating of the pan while simmering or melting butter even though the power is low on the average. The cooker has been really useful for evaluating our cookware and induction cooking. It is also useful as an extra burner when we need one. I would not recommend it as your only cooking surface.
