Great Fit
I purchased these shoes for my boyfriend’s birthday. He has other colors of this same brand and style of shoe. He loves the way the sole cushions his feet while offering a lightweight and comfortable feel in wearing them for long periods of time. An older pair quickly became his favorite “garden shoe.” This color looks slimming on his foot due to the variation of a dark color on the top and an off white on the sides of the shoe. Although not waterproof, the material feels soft like suede, but wears like leather. These shoes are a great quality and value for your money!

Great Shoes, High Price
The good part about these shows is that they do provide great support, they fit really well, and they're quite comfortable. I also appreciate that they tend to last a long time. The soles generally provide good traction and I haven't experienced any problems with them in the various environments where I walk. Given that I walk a lot on uneven ground, I really need a shoe with top quality support and these shoes provide it. However, the con side of these shoes are the amazingly high price and the fact that the inside of the shoe tends to wear out before the outside of the shoe. The upper shoe will usually continue to look acceptable (especially if you polish them) and the sole will still have good wear left on it when the innards just give out and force you to buy a new pair. I'm not sure there is an answer to this problem. I've had other shoes where the soles gave out first and that actually ends up being worse because your feet constantly get wet. Still, it would be nice if the shoe wore just a bit better considering the high price. The shoe laces always give out after about six or seven months, but a new pair of shoe laces don't cost much. I've been buying these shoes for years now. Out of the nine or ten pairs that I've owned, they tend to wear consistently for the most part. I did have one pair that must have been factory rejects because the finish was quite poor. I did return them to the store I bought them at (I wasn't buying them on Amazon at the time) and got a trade without problem. In general, I can expect two or possibly three years of moderately hard use out of my shoes. However, I do wear them until they're literally falling apart. I imagine most people would wear them for a year or so before getting a new pair. Adding a good pair of insoles once the shoe begins to show its age does add to its life expectancy.

Looks great, feels great! Keep away from the cat.
I was initially worried about purchasing these shoes through the internet without first being able to try them on, but I had found a guide online to size my feet myself and went ahead and placed an order. I am reluctant to seek help from shoe department employees at stores anymore after my last experience, in which the girl working in shoes told me that she did not know how to size my shoes and left me to play with the shoe-sizing device on my own. The shoes arrived in great condition and after trying them on found that they fit perfectly. I had in the past been told that I had wide feet, though many shoe stores I visit in person do not carry appropriately wide shoes, and I wind up buying a size larger, though the last several shoes I have purchased this way have been too tight just behind the toes, causing the shoes to become uncomfortable after long periods of time. In contrast, these Rockport shoes have given me no issues with being tight anywhere around my foot. The only issue I have had has been the heels of the shoes rubbing into my heels, something that on other shoes has rubbed my flesh raw. Fortunately, after having put up with this slight discomfort for a couple weeks and my feet developing the appropriate callouses, I no longer have this issue and can wear these shoes all day and walk as far as I like without feeling any discomfort or pain. Aesthetically, these shoes are visually pleasing for me, especially considering the logo is a small, dark label located on the heel of the shoe where it is not an eyesore to the overall design. I really like the feel of the material of the shoe in addition to the color. I can be kind of picky when it comes to shopping for shoes, but these have turned out to be exactly what I needed in exactly the size I was looking for. If I had one complaint, it is that the cat has taken it upon himself to play with these shoes, and while I do not mind him rubbing his face against them I really do not like when he grabs and starts to kick them, as this has started to scratch the leather.

Still a great shoe after all these years...
This is "my shoe"; so I've been buying these for years now. Fit is still good. I answered Yes for good arch support, and they probably are; but I've been using orthotics for a lot of years as well. So don't pay too much attention to my "yes" to that question. What I like about these shoes is that they are comfortable to wear all day; they look dressy enough when I need it; but are a shoe I want to wear (more like a sport shoe). In the 20 years or so I've been buying these, I varied once to a different brand; and came back before those were worn out. This shoe should last me a couple of years for "good wear". The retiring shoe becomes my scuff and scratch shoe; and the previous scruff and scratch shoe becomes my garden shoe until they are trash. My metric for shifting is always how beat up the heal gets. I've always had hard to fit feet for any mens shoe so very few brands fit me well. These feel like they were custom made for me; and as hard on shoes as I can be, they keep hanging in there through abuse; and still can polish up to look pretty good...

Difference in sizing/quality based upon manufacturer location (2nd Update)
2nd UPDATE: I went home (upstate NY) for the holidays and in my spare time went to a local, well-regarded shoe shop that I know in the past carried this model Rockport. After getting sized by a retail associate, they brought me a pair of 12 W of this model and it fit just like it used to. I checked the label under the tongue and was unsurprised to find that the country of manufacture was Vietnam. I bought them immediately, and would have bought two more pairs if they had any left. The price was also slightly cheaper, although after the headache of guessing sizes and returning poorly fitting shoes, I'd have gladly paid more. So, it seems that Rockport has either moved manufacture of the shoes from Vietnam to India, or that they have manufacturers in several countries at once fulfilling orders. Regardless of where they are made, the current lot coming out of India seems to be suffering greatly in sizing, quality and consistency. I'm going to submit this entire saga to Rockport in hopes that something might change in the future, but I'm not holding my breath. In the short term, I plan to scrounge through any area brick and mortar stores carrying this model in hopes they have some Vietnam-built in my size in back storage. UPDATE: I returned the last pair and ordered size 12, 3E (which I wasn't even aware was a size, but there were no 4E available in size 12). Tried them on, still very tight. When I compared them sole to sole with my 10 month old pair of size 12, 2E of same model... the older shoes are wider! Not sure where to go from here, but I'm probably never going to buy Rockports online again if there's going to be a complete lack of consistency on the part of the manufacturer. ORIGINAL: I've resigned myself to being happy with any pair of daily wear shoes that lasts longer than six months before they wear out. I'm a big guy so if the soles don't run smooth, then the inside back of the heel usually starts to fray/come apart. These shoes are better than most in that regard. However, the quality of these products has declined over the years. The last two pairs I've owned have been vastly improved by third-party insoles. Also, the shoelaces tend to break/fray easily, and Rockport-brand replacements in the right color are tough to come by. This time around, I ordered the same size (12, 2E) of this pair of shoes I ordered 10 months ago. The shoes' fit is much tighter, in particular around the big toe MTP. I don't suffer from bunions or bursitis, but I get the feeling these shoes might aggravate those conditions if you have them (or perhaps induce them...?). In addition, the shoelaces are shorter than I remember them being (although they do appear to be the same cheap quality that I mentioned above). I'm not sure where to go from here, since I'm pretty sure I can't return these since I wore them outside for a few days in hopes that there might be a "fitting in" period and they material would relax (but that doesn't seem to be the case.) The only difference I can see between the old pair and this new pair is the place of manufacture. The old pair was made in Vietnam and the new pair in India. While I'd love to buy American-made, I'm simply looking for a quality product that doesn't wear out quickly. And if it does wear out in 6 months, doesn't cost an arm and a leg (e.g. my last few pairs of NB). Next time, I'll try ordering a half-size up or perhaps even 4E width. Then again, I might just have too look for yet another brand that hasn't been suffering from these quality/consistency issues. I think I'll have my work cut out for me.

High Instep
Nice shoes reminiscing my pair I still wear from 15 years ago. But these shoes are subtly different. The shoe material is not as thick. The old shoe top stitching was in a welted seam. The new shoe is not. But it is a nice shoe. However, the instep is higher and hits my ankle bone. It can get painful fast. So, I rate these shoes at 4 stars. If the instep were not quite so high, I would be able to wear them.
