Most Important to Know is, it only needs a small drop. But learn how to use it.
If You Get Error Messages: Read This1). You might be doing something wrong!2). Read the Booklet Again.3). Before taking blood, make SURE the droplet icon appears. (Looks like a tiny snowman.4). Press up arrow or S to turn meter on. Shows current date and time at bottom for 2 seconds.5). Use up and down arrow to scroll through previous results.6). Switch between dogs and cats by holding down arrow for 3 seconds.7). Then press up or down arrows to select dog 1, 2, or 3. Same for cats.8). Often best to put a thin layer pf Vaseline on are to be lanced for blood drop. Will help it to make a drop.9). Press S. Once you see the droplet / snowman on the screen you have 2 minutes to take sample.10). It's best to have the meter strip point straight down into blood droplet. Sideways is "iffy".11). When you see the screen count down from 5 to 0 you know you did everything right!12). There are 8 error messages that could occur. Pay attention and lookup (in booklet), what they mean.Error Messages:13). Er1= Used test strip inserted.14). Er2= Drop acquired too soon. Need to get sample AFTER blood drop / snowman appears.15). Er3= Temperature during test was too cold or warm. Operating temp 41f to 113f, or 5-45c.16). Er4= Sample too thick (viscosity), or insufficient volume.17). Er5= Non Vetmate strip used, or was not inserted properly.18). There is a problem with the meter.19). An electronic error occurred during test.It took us a couple months to realize we were causing the errors. Now we have no problems testing.

Wish I could use it on my dog.
I did my research extensively when my dog was diagnosed diabetic, for what you can find on Amazon this is the best buck for your buy. Good reviews great quality product, I tried it on other dogs I have. The diabetic dog, I cannot get the draw blood on to save my life. It’s currently sitting in a box because it’s not being used, but for the few times I was able to try it out my dogs and mom it’s really nice to use. It also comes with setting so you can have up to four animals, cat or dog, and you can set which ones which slot 1-4. And it stores the information so you can backtrack. Would definitely recommend to others.

Inaccurate product.
I have bought the Alpha track3 and the Vetmate. The vetmate is inaccurate by 100 points. It is unfortunate because the Vetmate is cheaper and I wanted to save money. I know the Alphatrack 3 is accurate because I have been able to compare it with the glucose test and the Glucosamine test at the vet office. The Vetmate has been a waste of money. I hope I can help other pet owners to learn from my experience.

Accurate but
Out of 25 test strips I had 10 bad strips, strips are expensive and hard to get. Will probably return because of this.

Easy machine to use
If you have a dog with diabetes and you need to check its sugar this is simple to use. Easy to follow directions and you are ready to check your pets sugar easily.

Not terrible, but not good enough, no value
It’s ok, I didn’t like the test strips, too difficult to draw blood from the dog, the alphatrak test strips are way better, they absorb the blood quickly and are clear so you can actually see that the blood is being absorbed, I wasted too many strips with this machine and that’s the main reason I returned it, also, the aphatrak has Bluetooth so you can upload the results to your phone and send them to the vet. Another thing, the test results were all over the place with this meter, couldn’t trust it. Didn’t feel it was worth the money, it only came with 10 test strips and a bottle of 50 strips costs $40, lancets 100 for $7. AlphaTrak comes with 50 strips and 30 lancets, a better value in my opinion. Same cost almost and you get more for your money and an app.

DVM uses this one. Seems to be working, had to call to assist in calibrating
This is the same one my DVM has, so I was comfortable getting it. Had to call the company to assist in calibrating it, and honestly the customer services woman was confused why I was calling at first. But eventually we got it calibrated and I did it again recently and seems to be working. The lancing device that comes with it is ok, just make sure you are pressing firming on the area you are trying to draw blood from, just seems the device doesn't puncture as well as some. But it suffices for pinna sticks.

Lancing Device Does Not Work Correctly
The lancets that came with the kit, to be used with the included SoftCare Lancing Device, appear to be too short. The lancets will not reach the opening of the lancing device. I made the mistake of ordering extra VetMate Lancets, which appear identical to the ones that come with the starter kit, they also appear too short.I did take the device to the vet in order to verify it was not just a "me" issue. The receptionist (who is a diabetic) could not get the lancing device to work correctly and also stated that the lancets appear to be too short. The lancing device appears to be fully functional, just the lancets themselves are too short and the needle will not extend to the opening of the lancing device.I will need to find another lancing device that actually works. As this is all new to me, I will not take the chance that it is a just defective lancing device and instead look to another brand in order to feel like I have made a better choice.
