Thrilling Read - 4.5 Stars
It's been 10-years since Eva Rayburn was convicted of a murder she can't remember. Newly released from prison she's leery of cops and trying to stay on the straight and narrow. But someone has not forgotten or forgiven the crime and thinks she and others still need to be punished. Deacon Garrison is a homicide detective investigating a murder that appears to be linked to Eva. Can Garrison untangle the mystery of the past while keeping Eva safe or will she become a psychopath's final victim? This was another great book by the very talented Ms. Burton. It's the first in a series of two (Senseless & Merciless) so I'd recommend reading them in order. I adored Eva and Garrison, neither of whom let the traumas from their past drag them down. It was full of surprises and had an ending I never saw coming. My only criticism would be that the romance didn't take root until the end and while I loved what I saw, I wish there had been more. Great read overall though & one I'd easily recommend!

Senseless
Good read. Who done it revealed in the very last chapter. I am now reading 2nd book Merciless. I expect it will be as good as the 1st. I personally could do without the explicit sex scenes. I am having trouble believing the attraction between the lawman & the woman he is tying to protect. I have this problem with all of Mary Burton's books. Still it's a good read. I find it hard to believe that a woman who has been raped to be the aggressor in kissing the lawman 1st. I don't call that bold or self confident. I find that hard to believe.

Liked the characters and twists
I always enjoy a book where I look forward to picking it up again, and on finding surprises inside. This one surprised me! On to the next in her series!

Gripping story!
I have read many of Mary Burton's books and this one was as good as all the rest. She writes about serial killers and has a wicked imagination. Looking forward to more!

A world of make believe
Various forms of trauma can cause a blank period in a person's memory. I have one of those blanks from a childhood accident - I can remember starting to fall, and remember my mother removing a bandage, but can remember nothing in between. A friend had an incident involving a car accident - she could remember leaving her office to go to her car, and remember waking up in the hospital, but can remember nothing about driving the car. In the case of Eva Rayburn, she was present when a man was killed - struck down with a poker from the fireplace. She can remember being brutally assaulted and raped by the man, and remember being taken from the building that was on fire, but the incident created a trauma that has left a permanent blank in her memory. She was told that she killed the man. "Friends" testified against her. The man who was killed was from a prominant family out for vengence. She was sent to prison for 10 years for manslaughter. Now she is back, trying to rebuild her life, and haunted by the past.People associated with Eva's past start showing up dead. Nothing is as it seems. Various people have agendas, and she is caught in the middle. The police don't believe in coincidence, but there are many things they had not considered in their list. It is almost too late by the time they start an investigation that digs into the past - actually much too late for some people. This is a suspense novel that will draw you into the plot, that gradually reveals surprise after surprise as the investigation continues.

Great suspense!
Senseless was fast paced, with great suspense, tight action, and compelling characters. My heart broke for Eva and the trauma she had endured and I loved seeing her strength of character and her vulnerability as she slowly began to develop relationships. Deacon Garrison was a strong male lead and ending up being perfect for Eva and I liked how their relationship developed slowly at first. I thought the plot was very interesting, with a few surprises and lots of suspense. I enjoyed this book and will definitely be reading the next book in the series!

"An Awesome Nightmare Thriller"
This is another suspenseful novel about a scary serial killer. You'll not believe who the murderer is until the end. Another great, entertaining story by a great author.

Kept me guessing till the very end
I've read a lot of Mary's books and loved them all. This one will go down as one of my favourites though. It kept me guessing right to the end and I found it hard to put down. Another excellent offering.

Slow start and predictable. Not her best work.
The start seems to hold promise but drags. It does not seem to get going until halfway through and then is very predictable.

A page turner
I love this author. This story is so well written and had me hooked from the start. The characters are strong and I wasn't expecting the twist at the end.
