Plastic sheet inside?
If it wasn't for this one thing I'd give 5 stars. The outer material is soft and comfy. Mine doesn't have any weird smell, it is just fine. The fill does not shift. It is pretty warm, but then again I live in So Cal so take that in mind. THE PROBLEM is this--when you crumple the comforter you can hear and feel what seems like a piece of plastic inside sort of buckling, and it is not that I mind the sound as another comment said--it's not like I'm shifting and scrunching the material all night while I'm sleeping, that is not the problem--it is more a matter of principle that the product is listed as 100% cotton outer shell and fill, and that simply can't be. There is no way cotton can crack and pop and be hard like plastic. I'm guessing this is their convenient way of making the fill not shift, but then don't advertise 100% cotton--that is what I expected and it just bothers me that I can't tell what is in there--definitely not cotton (I want to cut it open to find out!). Also, how is plastic "breathable", maybe that is why it is so warm? It may not bother you but I feel duped and worry about it when I go to sleep lol. Trying to live with/ignore it since in reality it is still comfortable and looks like it will last.

Smells & Made in China!
Just received it. Smell is not nice, so I just washed and dried it. Still smells. I did not know it was "made in China". I try to avoid products from China. Amazon should have a mandatory "Made In" field for all products. I am planning to return all products that do not say where it is manufactured and end up being somewhere I do not like...

Plastic?! Very light, doesn't fit well, and it's uncomfortable.
As other reviews have said, there definitely seems to be some sort of plastic inside? It's incredibly noisy and makes the comforter have this oddly "stiff" feeling to it. Besides that though, the comforter seems extremely light... To the point that you're almost not really covered with anything at all. We've had cotton flannel sheets before that provide more warmth than this. We also haven't had time to test the long-term durability, but judging from the quality and our satisfaction with the other facets of this product, I don't have high hopes for the long-term durability either...If I could return it, I absolutely would. We'll be going to an actual store for a new one if/when this one becomes unbearable or breaks down.Update: Purchased on Feb 19, 2019, today is May 13, 2021. I'm downgrading this review from two stars to one star. We HATE this comforter. It lives in the linen closet as a backup. I'm not even kidding, you can feel a breeze through it when the fan is on it's lowest setting. I'm so frustrated this cost nearly $80 and is somehow less functional than a plain cotton sheet. No holes, tears, or anything like that... But we honestly haven't used it but a few days every other month. I've washed and dried it dozens of times, hoping it would soften up or at least decrease the crinkly plastic noise - Neither happened though. This comforter is just as stuff, crinkly, and cold as the day we bought it and at this point I honestly wouldn't be surprised to find out it isn't even made of cotton (despite the label saying so).

100% cotton - cuts down on sweating at night
I bought this duvet for both of my kids because it was 100% cotton outside AND the fill is too. It is so hard to find an all cotton comforter at a decent price and this fit the bill. The cheap synthetic ones from Target were making my kids sweat like crazy at night. They do not sweat with these! I do not dry clean mine. I wash on gentle cycle, cold, and dry on low heat and they have both been fine. Also, the tag states that the fill is 100% cotton.

One of the very few non-synthetic, animal-products-free comforter options
When our family decided to get a new comforter, we knew we'd have a lot of trial-and-error ahead of us. We tested 7 synthetic "down alternatives" and despite the different warmth ratings found them all to promote uncomfortable sleep due to poor humidity and heat management. The synthetics, even the cotton-like weaved microfibers, don't allow enough air (and therefore water vapor) circulation. We found 3 more cotton shell comforters, but filled, again, with synthetic fibers. They were no better than the others. Since we were in no way buying bird feathers, we were about to give up when we came upon this all-cotton comforter.Last night was our first night sleeping with it. We washed it first. It's bulky, but not as bad as traditional pieces too big for even larger home washers/dryers. Then we dried it on medium to low settings. That was a task--it took more than 5.5 hours to dry. We have a large HE tumble dryer, but it still took all night to dry. And by 2AM the edges were still damp. We slept with it slightly damp anyhow, hoping the dry night air would complete the drying. In the morning the comforter was still damp around the edges. The comforter is on the heavy side, but so far it appears to breathe much better than the synthetic alternatives we tried. We'll update because that we know of, this is the only all-cotton version available. If a reader knows of another, please let us know. The outer shell is pretty noisy, but that isn't an issue for us.We didn't see this in any other color option than white. We just bought a duvet cover since we don't want to have to spend 7-8 hours every week washing/drying this. We'd have given this comforter 5 stars if it weren't for the difficulty getting it dry. And for us taking this to a dry cleaner would defeat the purpose of buying a comforter (easy maintenance relative to layers of sheets). If we come upons something major in the next few weeks or months, we'll update. One last point. We're Amazon Prime subscribers, and have noticed that a lot of items we get "free shipping" on are available cheaper, with free shipping anyhow, via other sellers here on Amazon. With taxes, we pay more for most of our Prime items, like this comforter, than if we'd just looked at a list of other sellers' offerings. So if you can wait a bit more than 2 days (Prime shipping), consider the other sellers for this comforter.
