El amor en los tiempos del cólera / Love in the Time of Cholera

I read the spanish version of the book to get a better feel for the story in the original language. I found myself referring to my spanish/english dictionary at times, but in the end I was rewarded with a great story. If you're hispanic or can understand the spanish language, read El Amor en los Tiempos del Colera- its more romantic in spanish. The story was interesting, gripping until the end! I just loved it! The characters come to life- with faults and everything -they're not perfect or heroic like in other love stories, they're very real especially the main characters Fermina and Florentino. As you may or may not know- the story is about two people who meet as youngsters and fall in love but because of certain circumbstances don't end up together. The girl, Fermina, marries a rich doctor. Florentino is left depressed and living a half life just waiting until Fermina is free once again. I found myself rooting for them all throughout the book. So if you're looking for a realistic, unpredictable love story - get this book and become another fan of the great Garbriel Garcia Marquez.

Excelente libro

Se enamora a los 15 y sigue, erre que erre, encejado en la misma mujer. No lo suelta hasta los 76 que le dan el si por PESAO.

Una obra magistral. El amor todo lo puede armado de perseverancia, humildad y valor. Ahora que tengo 55 años, 40 años después de haberlo leído por primera vez, siento que ahora que lo terminé, que hasta ahora pude comprender y sentir la disección magistral de García Marquez de como el tiempo puede deteriorar el cuerpo y la mente pero nunca el amor, de que los achaques de la vejez y la vejez misma fel que no murió joven, es un mal necesario para disfrutar lo vivido.

Muy buen libro

Gabriel García Márquez demuestra, una vez más, porqué es el escritor latinoamericano más importante de todos los tiempos y merecedor del Premio Nobel de Literatura. Me llegó al alma su descripción del amor, en una etapa de la vida donde se cree desaparecido ese sentimiento. Va más allá de la belleza juvenil y del "amor desenfrenado", de las apariencias, y llega a ese profundo sentimiento en la vejez, sin adornos de por medio. Me encanta la narrativa poética y mágica de García Márquez. La recomiendo con todo mi corazón.
