Fantastic Entry Level GPS Drone - let's break it down!
These days I only write reviews for products that I really like or really hate. Thankfully this review is about really, really liking the F22 drone. I purchased it mainly for the follow me function while mountain biking as well as an interesting selfie camera. I did not expect too much because of the price point (which is about 1/3 the cost of the nearest competitor with the same features) but figured that if it did half of what it says it can do I would be happy. So far I have tested all of the capabilities except waypoint navigation and I was very impressed, here is a breakdown: GPS GUIDENCE: Getting the drone connected to your phone through wifi and then connecting to satellites is a bit cumbersome but after a few times it became fairly quick and easy. Usually takes me about 2-3 minutes for the phone wifi to connect and then another minute for satellites to connect. Once that is accomplished (FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS) you are ready to fly. The drone will idle with props turning until you take off then it will hold a steady position until you tell it to do something else. ORBIT: I found this mode to be the most useful and most fun. Setting the distance and altitude takes about 5 seconds and the drone will fly in a circle (however large you set it) while keeping the camera trained on the center. Super cool for selfies or group photos and videos. FOLLOW ME: Mixed results. It will follow you but from what I can tell the drone needs to be fairly high in the air and wind will impact how well it keeps the camera trained on you. I was hoping to keep the drone close to me (about 20 feet away and 10 feet high) but it had trouble following me accurately. I am guessing that when it is higher it is much easier to follow an object because there is less flight adjustment TRACKING: This is the second most useful mode. It works wonderfully. After you have the drone in the air you can draw a square around the object you want to track and the drone will stay in a stationary position while keeping the camera pointed at whatever you drew a square around. Super cool and works beautifully. HEADLESS: If you want to fly the drone around and you are like me and have a nasty habit of crashing into things you want to enable the one touch Headless mode. That will make the drone go in whatever direction you move the joystick REGARDLESS OF WHICH WAY THE DRONE IS POINTING. It’s the only way to fly and just have fun. TAKE OFF / LANDING: This feature works perfectly although landing takes quite a while to get the drone on the ground. RETURN TO HOME: This enables the drone to automatically return to the place from which it took off. Works great to get the drone back to the general area but it takes forever for it to actually land. I usually hit the return button, let it get close then bring it down manually and hover it so that I can grab it and then hit the emergency stop and all props stop. CAMERA: I was impressed with the picture and video quality, again maybe because I wasn’t expecting much. It is a fisheye lens and is on a gimbal that you can move remotely up and down. You also get a real-time image of what the drone sees on your phone, which is really nice for framing shots. CAUTIONARY NOTE: Do not land or take off on sand. The sand gets into the motors instantly and will destroy them. Also be very careful not to crash the drone on its camera, which is very easy to scratch or break. Picture / Video: Super impressed with the video quality but then again I wasn’t expecting much. It will take pictures and video directly to your phone, which is awesome. At the same time it will save the same pictures and videos on to a micro SD card. I found that the media recorded directly to the SD card is of much higher quality than the same media recorded to the phone. GEEKS ONLY: The pictures recorded to the phone and SD card are jpg files and the SD card versions are about twice the size as the phone versions. The video however is saved on the phone as an mp4 file while on the SD card they are avi files. Again the files on the SD card are bigger and of higher quality. Conclusion: This is a relatively inexpensive drone that has all the capabilities of more expensive models and is a great way to get into drone photography and flight. After some familiarization it is fairly easy to use and the advanced features of the drone are also easy to initiate after you have played with it for a while. This drone delivered on every promise made and I could not be happier with this purchase. UPDATE: I finally figured out how to activate the follow me mode (or at least I think I did). You must first activate the tracking mode (which keeps the camera pointed at you ), THEN activate the follow me mode. I am guessing both need to be active so the tracking points the camera while the follow me mode follows the controller.

Good little quad overall
Got this on a whim, have wanted a little more advanced quad that the ones we have currently. We currently have a few minis, a Syma X5C-1, and a UDI U818A but those are more toys than real quads. Haven't used them in a while because they need near perfect flying conditions outside. While the F22 may also be considered a toy it is a step up from the others we have. We were looking for one that didn't need "perfect" weather to fly in. First try using it was not the best, but we charged the battery back up and my younger son took it for another try. He had much better success the second go. Today was use #3, and we have some video/pics to share. Here is our review after a third use: Initial use - 3 stars - initially it was a little cumbersome to setup. Instructions on the phone are a little hard to follow as you're setting it up. There is the instruction booklet with it but that is also not the clearest. It gets a little better with use, our third try was definitely a good outing. Controls/controller - 4 stars - The controller is a little small but it handles the job of allowing control of the quad pretty nicely. However, I have an iPhone 8 with an Otterbox case and I could not put my phone in the holder. My son's phone (an SE?) fits well and I have an older 6 with no case that fits ok-ish. Just something to think about. After a few minutes of use my son had it down pretty well. Flying - 5 stars - this thing flies well. It turns nicely, flies in a straight line if you calibrate it properly. It has pretty good speed. Extra features - 5 stars - I know these may be normal on most quads now but the extra features on the F-22 are worth 5 stars. The flight limits, which limit altitude, distance from controller, etc. are great. The video I attached (unfortunately I can only attach one) shows the quad hitting the "wall" before we figured that setting out. Where is "backs up" is where it hit the range limit and actually came back to where we were. We have lost quads before because of it flying out of range so this is a great feature for us. Had a little trouble getting the follow me to work properly but that may have been our fault so I can't mark off for that yet. The routing feature was pretty cool, seemed to follow the route we laid out although it was not a complicated one. Camera - 3 stars - the camera takes a decent pic/video but as you can see it is not the greatest. Good enough for us but it does get pixelated at times. Maybe it is how we are recording but overall I have to give the camera feature just a 3. Battery - 4 stars - definitely gets about 15 minutes worth of use, would have liked to have seen just a little more time. Going to get an extra battery to give us a half hour total time. So, let's add it up - 3+4+5+5+3+4=24/6 categories = Overall - 4 stars - a fun little quad, a solid 4 star rating for it. I would recommend buying it (especially if you can get it for $125 or less like we did). An extra battery seems to be essential as the flight time is about 15 minutes so 2 would give you 30 mins total. You don't want to push it more than that, however, these little motors on these things can't handle extended periods of time running full bore. I may get another one so we can try racing them.

Super Portable Low Cost 1080p Drone with Important Features
Firstly, I have several drones of varying prices and quality levels. I have a cars and comedy channel on Youtube (Rated R Cars) and I got some drones to make cool footage on my channel. I also go hiking a lot and I wanted a compact drone I could use to take nice video of me and my family in cool places. I also own the Contixo F20, which I rated at five stars for excellent features and most importantly, excellent video quality (and the ESSENTIAL feature of being able to remotely tilt the camera up and down). I wouldn't buy a drone without it and I don't understand why so many drones don't have it. The F22, a super compact drone, also has this feature. The Contixo F22 is perfect for taking along hiking or other interesting places where you suddenly may want to whip the drone out and take some footage. This drone fits in the palm of my hand and then unfolds EFFORTLESSLY and is immediately ready to fly. Unfold wings, click in battery, and go. It has all the GPS features (Waypoint, follow, return home, etc.) of bigger drones, but in a small package. I plan on putting the nice compact case that comes with the F22 into my backpack (or just carrying it in my hand since it's lightweight) and taking it with me hiking, boating, driving, motorcycling, etc. I also keep the F20 in my car as well (and take that hiking too). There are benefits of having both drones. The F20 has excellent video quality. The F22 is super portable (with good video quality despite it's small size - but the F20 has superior video quality). So buy the F20 if you want to make awesome video. Buy the F22 if you want standard quality video (for a low cost drone). Or buy BOTH like me if you have changing needs. :) Both are highly recommended and I have videos of both on my Youtube channel (search for Rated R Cars on Youtube and it comes right up).

False advertising, not 1080p
So i gave this 3 stars. Out of the 5 stars, one was removed for false advertising of the video quality, and one (really should be more off) was removed due to customer service. So lets start with the bad. The video quality is 720p, as verified on the video files that are saved to the phone showing 1280x720. There is no way to change the quality up to 1080 either. Second, the customer service was really bad in the beginning. I opened roughly 3tickets before i actually was able to hold an actual conversation without scripted replies such as ignoring my questions and just telling me to send it in so "tech" can inspect it. I stated nothing was wrong with it and i just wanted to know why the listing says its 1080p when its not. So anyway, i got all sorts of replies like telling me that if the video is saved to an SD card, it will then be 1080p. This makes no sense, as that has nothing to do with recording format, and secondly there is no way to change the recording to the SD card anyway...i already checked indepth on the app settings in the phone. They also said to press the record button on the remote, rather than the phone itself, as it that is supposed to make a difference some how. I got all sorts of strange replies to "troubleshoot" the reason it was 720p and not 1080p. In the end, nothing changed and i still have a drone that shoots 720p when the listing specifically says it is 1080p. As far as the drone itself for the price, its pretty decent. I like the orbit mode alot. Follow me doesnt tend to work really, and loses the subject that the green block was drawn around. Follow me using the gps works, but just make sure your phone is calibrated correctly or it will fly all over the place. It is really bad it even the slightest breeze, so be aware of that too!

Bought this drone for my boyfriend as a beginner
I am not sure if the video posted so I posted shots from it just Incase! I will mention we had an issue with the first drone we were sent but it honestly wasn’t even an issue- they had a brand new one delivered the very next day at no cost. And even gave UPS a shipping label so we could just leave the one we needed to return and they took care of it. Amazing customer service. As for the drone itself the F22 is an amazing model. My boyfriend picked it up extremely quickly and enjoys all of the features. A huge bonus is although this drone is inexpensive DO NOT underestimate it, as it has many of the same features you would see on a professional drone, just much easier to use. Look through the manual and you will be having fun in no time. This drone is not too loud, it doesn’t fly at a slow speed, extremely easy to learn how to use, and the views you can get with it are extraordinary. Amazing product, whether you’re a beginner or you’re just looking for a more compact drone to travel with (a wonderful feature of the f22) One of our favorite features is the return to home, where your drone will very quickly fly back to its starting point, definitely recommend starting it in a very open area for this reason so it has no obstacles landing.

A little old for firmware issues
Purchased for my preteen daughter that's been having a lot of fun with a cheap digital camera. She was ecstatic on opening the package, but right away I noticed the packaging said 2k instead of 4k as the listing claimed. Well, reading the manual it indicates the video is 2k, but there's some shenanigans being played to make still images 4k. Disappointing, but not a huge loss for a toy. Next up was actually testing the drone. We watched Contixo's video, read the manual, and charged the batteries. Unfortunately, it was rainy and overcast once preparations were completed, but the documentation said we could fly indoors without GPS, so we decided to give it a try. First problem: Connecting the app to the drone. We did all the preliminary setup, downloaded the Android app, connected to the drone's WiFi, and started the app. The app (version 1.3.4) sees the connection, and populates the drone's firmware version (3.3.2), but that's it. After giving it a few tries on two different Android phone (One Android 10 and one 11) we gave up on the app. Resigned to the ho hum experience of "watching the drone," my daughter starts the propellers, and tells it to launch - instantly it's pegged on the ceiling and skittering around the room. After a couple frantic seconds she manages to kill the propellers and it drops. Another attempt produces the same results. We finally called the experiment a failure and decided to wait for a clear day to give it a final try. The day finally arrives, and with some serious trepidation, she runs through the preliminaries and we try the app one more time - still no dice. Finally she works up the courage to launch the drone, knowing that it may fly off of it's own volition and never be seen again. A very trying moment later, the drone is up, flying, and stable. Initially it jumps up to about ten feet, then hovers as expected. She runs through the tests one by one - forward, backward, left, right, up, down, return to home, landing, everything seems to be working, but still the pall of no live video or photo mars the occasion. Running through the battery, she packs it back into the handy case, and we move on. Several days of prompting later, I emailed Contixo support about the app issue. Several days going back and forth verifying purchase and running through basic troubleshooting, I get this from Contixo: "F22 Owners - End of 2021 into 2022 We have been notified that some units may be exhibiting irregular connection issues and are in the process of analyzing what is causing this issue." So I ask if it will be resolved before my Amazon return window expires and am told: "The developer has no ETA unfortunately on when this will be repaired." Well, that seals the deal. Per reviews, this didn't used to be a problem, but as of now the drone is not delivering the features promised, so back it goes. In the meantime I got a very similar UranHub drone for myself, and while the charging is not as convenient, everything there is working as advertised. Next up is shopping around a little more for the girl as to whether she wants an UranHub, or to throw the dice at another model.

For the price.. F22 is a great value.
My first drone.. so far has exceeded expectations. Nice and small, easy to carry around. I don't look like I am going camping with a huge backpack. Some drones make you look like that. I have kept it to a max of 70m height so far.. I believe it will go to 120m. The app allows you to set parameters such as height and some other features. Great to build confidence. Noteworthy: 1. Drone finds home.. all of my experience has been dead on takeoff point. 2. Video and photos were taken through wifi to the app and phone. If you were to record to the micro sd, I am sure video would be higher quality. 3. Its winter in the video... dreary.. and cloudy. I suspect spring will produce better video. 4. NO GIMBAL... that means the camera has no springs or attachments to smooth the inflight winds and turbulence. The camera is hardmounted. 5. Tracks your flights. The only negatives so far: 1. Havent tried follow me. I am worried it may run into a tree or building while following me. It is possible that it will remain at a certain altitude making that unlikely to happen. 2. Camera doesn't have a gimbal. Makes wind and drone movement very noticeable in video. 3. Once or twice it hasn't captured video. May have been my fault, not sure. 4. Battery life... ?? It's getting around 12 or 13 minutes. I guess that's pretty good for this price point. I have ordered additional batteries from a website based in China, at a good price. I also ordered one from Amazon. I would suggest if you are thinking of this product. Download the app and look at the features. The app impressed me. This drone to me is.... basically a physical clone of the Mavic Air. Of course it's missing the features that make the dgi Mavic Air $800... things like. Obstacle Avoidance, camera gimbal, longer flight time, and 35mph travel speed. I have my next drone picked out that will solve a lot of the features... DJI Mavic 2 Zoom... unless Contixo can make one with the fixes.. Gimbal is the biggie. *****Update- upgraded to an Autel Evo***** The Evo has 4k video.. very smooth camera transitions. Top speed 45mph. Battery life about 23mins-26mins.... great app with the EVO also. I am going to attempt to attach a video to the review. All in all... you wont go wrong with this for a fun drone to fly. A decent amateur video producer. A learner and a drone you could let someone borrow.
