Strong Kirschy Cherry Flavor! ❤
This cherry flavor reminds me of my all-time favorite cough syrup from my childhood -- only without the saltiness! Since I was so young at the time, I never thought about finding the brand of cough syrup. I liked the flavor so much, I sometimes would sneak an extra swig, when my mom wasn't looking. As an adult, I rediscovered the same flavor, only not quite as sweet, and WAY more alcoholic in the form of Kirsch, that delightful, cherry-flavored liqueur. The problem for me is Kirsch is pricey, with too much alcohol for my taste. One day, Watkins Cherry Extract showed up, out of Amazon Never-Neverland in a completely unrelated search, as such things are wont to do. Since I already used and love Watkins Vanilla Extract, I decided to try it. OMG, this stuff is THE BOMB! I opened the bottle, took a whiff -- et voila! -- I was 5-years-old again, smelling my cough syrup. I poured a few drops into my coffee, and I was my former 30-something-messenger-driver-self, gulping down my favorite cold-brew iced coffee with cherry-flavor seltzer, and half&half. The thing is, I couldn't use cherry juice, or most real cherry syrups, 'cuz they curdled the cream. Cherry lovers of the Amazonverse, this is THE HOLY GRAIL of the CHERRYVERSE, my fellow cherry fanatix! I never make coffee without it anymore. It takes the 'edge' off leftover and inferior coffees, while it makes good coffee taste even better! I don't need to use as much coconut palm sugar in coffee and tea, when I use this. I make my own flavor-enhanced water and seltzer, WITHOUT SUGAR! How excellent is that? And that's just beverages! I've used it in Black Forest blintzes -- in the crepes, the sweet, creamy cheese filling, and in the cherry topping. I'm thinking, perhaps I can use ordinary pancake mix to make Black Forest doughnut holes, using raw cacao powder, dried tart cherries, and of course, this magical cherry elixir. Next time I make brownies...you've got it! ;-D What's not to love? ❤❤❤❤❤ One more thing, this cherry flavor works even better with a pinch of salt, just like the cough syrup I've searched for my entire life. I'll probably never find it, 'cuz it simply tasted too good, causing young children, like I was, to I'D on the stuff. Quelle fromage! ;_( But that's OK, 'cuz we have the basis for that flavor, and so much more.

A long tradition in some families.
I haven't had Watkins flavorings since I was a girl, and my father told stories of the Watkins man riding out on the ND prairie on horseback to deliver goods and take new orders when he was a boy in the early 1900s. What a treat to find them on Amazon! I think the smell says it all, and it's quality and baking abilities have been known for a very long time. The bottle size is perfect, and a good value.

STUFF HAS A WOW FACTOR!!!
IN MY OPPINION THIS STUFF MAKES YOU SAY WOW! As many are saying it smells and tastes like a cough medicine or ludens cough drop... However, I dont think it is meant for drinking direct in its form! I added a few drops to my ginger ale and all I can say is WOW! I added a few drops to my coffee and all I can say is WOW! I cant wait to try it in a chocolate cake, Im sure I will say WOW! Love It!

For ice cream you can use many different flavouring options since you'll have the chance to add them without being heated. I like fruit frozen deserts year round but finding the most ripe fruit is a challenge even in-season depending on where you live. I made a great cherry ice cream with frozen cherries from W@LLMart with the help of this extract. It's hard to say how much, you have to do it to taste. My method: after slight cooking of the frozen berries they should break down a bit, let it cool down (may have to blend before 'seasoning' for certain types of fruit or if fruit is quite large), macerate the fruit with a sweetener and the extract. Have to do it to taste, mixing well, and best to let it sit for a while, taste and 'season' again as needed. Remember cold foods have muted flavors, so you want the fruit to really pop at this stage. Continue on with making your ice cream custard. Once everything is done you can still taste the end custard and add flavoring or sweetener. If you're concerned about adding extra sweetener and throwing off your ice cream recipe consider this: recipes are typically developed with well ripened fruit, which contain more sugars than the frozen or off season stuff you may be trying to use, so adding a bit of sweetener should really just bring the your fruit up to the proper level. Also, when you're adding a flavouring to boost or round out the existing flavour you need much less and the quality requirements are less stringent for the artificial flavouring. (think making a flavoured custard only with artificial flavouring vs one with blended fruit). So the fact that this product is backing up real fruit and that no heat will be applied to it, its a great product for making ice cream! I can't speak to if its great if being heated or without actual fruit.
