Brought a Lapsed Comic Reader Back to Comics
Peter David is back with a story about perhaps his greatest creation (the Maestro), and continuing his greatest work (The Incredible Hulk). The story felt too short for a five-issue storyline—I read the original “Future Imperfect” back in 1993, and that had way more storiy and was only two comic issues (albeit graphic novel length). But that’s just a sign that comics and the way their stories are told and drawn has evolved.Good read. Great to revisit some old characters (nice to see ya again, Old Rick and Janice). Awesome to see how (spoiler, although it’s almost a thirty year-old spoiler) the Hulk became the Maestro. Also loved the twist that the Hulk wasn’t the first Maestro, although I think this may present a minor inconsistency with the original Future Imperfect story, but oh well! It’s still entertaining and brought this old lapsed comic reader back!

Maestro is Cunning and Smart
Great story, Great Orgin, Maestro comes off as a great villian, and great mind. I love strories where the protagonist and Antagonist are a grey area, presented for your own interpretation. I love that.

Sympathy in B Minor
On the whole it's a pretty tale. I wished they showed a little more about the time after his defeat at the hands of the original Maestro. In the beginning the pase was good. But it still missing a lot information. His appearance has changed, so time has past and he's completely ruthless. I want to see how each act he committed turn him into the big brow Maestro.

A story that needed telling.
Super heroes can have stories about there present, past and future. This one is about what happened to Hulk/Bruce Banner in a dimension where he lost hope. The first part of a long story.

Good, but not great. Strange story decisions take you out of the story.
The original future imperfect is rightly regarded as a classic. The question of how the hulk became the Maestro was not answered in any real detail, but didn't need to be in the context of that original story. That original story could have been left to exist as it's own standalone. The origin of the Maestro did not *need* unpacking further, but that's not to say that going back and picking up on that thread was always destined to fail (a la matrix 4 and other recent failed franchise reboots). It just needed to have the right team and be done right. While the first criteria was satisfied (Peter David is on writing duty), unfortunately, for me, while not necessarily failing, it does fall short of telling a wholely satisfying story. Apologies for the vagueness of some of what follows, but I'm trying not to give too much key info away...The conceit of how we (or more accurately the hulk) find ourselves in the future imperfect world, just does not work for me. It's not even the basic idea that's the problem (although it doesn't help as you can't help but think 'plot device'), it's that there are obvious variations on the same theme that would have worked better than the one chosen. With a more padded out narrative, more plausible events leading up to and explaining where the Hulk has been (and why) and more suitable actors/antagonists (aim & modok are hardly from the 'a' roster), it could have worked, but because of the choices made, it just doesn't, really.Having the character/personality of the Maestro almost fully formed from the get go is also jarring and makes little sense given this is meant to be an origin of sorts, and the odd decisions just seem to continue. Inadequately explained plot points, inconsistencies, questions raised that are then not answered all add to it just not feeling like the hulk and/or future imperfect that we are familiar with and this then hinders our engagement with the story. One of the main ways this is demonstrated is with the main antagonist of this ark and the Hulk/Maestro's struggle to overcome them. While certainly no sap, the character in question (as far as I know) has only ever been able to hold their own against the hulk in previous encounters, without ever posing a serious threat, but here they are inexplicably more powerful than they ever were previously. The hulk/maestro also conversely appears weaker and more vulnerable, similarly without any real explanation that makes any sense and as such, seems to contradict established continuity.Which is all very strange, because this is Peter David we're talking about....

Excellent story
Hard-core action. Fast paced. Great artwork. Was surprised with the twist in the story. Recommend it any fan of the Maestro storyline

Future Imperfect Prequel! It’s About Time!
This is everything I could of asked for, it’s Peter David back writing his most iconic character. He pulls out a wonderful list of classic Hulk villains and answers the question of what the big green giant had been doing before taking control of his dysfunctional utopia.

Amazing. This is a refreshing storyline.
Loved Herc and Thor resemblance. Shades of Hulk are so deep, makes you wonder how easily heroes lose the path.
