I had been replacing my filters for the past 24 years by unscrewing the hold-down screws! Sometimes having to hunt down the proper screw driver! After replacing the grates with the swing open thumb latches, it now takes me a few minutes to replace both return air vents! No more screw driver!I did buy a used vent grate to save a few dollars, knowing that I could possibly get one of the returned ones that had a broken hinge on it! Sure enough I did get one with one of the hinges not even properly spot welded!But being handy with a drill, I merely drilled two small holes through the hinge plate and then through the face of the grate. After cleaning off the burrs, I then I used 3/8-inch long #6-32 screws, adding a spider washer under the nut to help keep it all in place. While drilling the first set of holes the other hinge separated from the assembly as well. So I also added screws to it! After adding the screws, in order to get the grate to close all the way, I did have to use an angle grinder to grind off a bit of the protruding screw inside. One might do better to use ¼-inch long screws instead of 3/8-inch. I used what I had in my supplies. Obviously the plant that assembles these don’t really know how to use the spot welder as many other Amazon customers have complained about the hinges not attached properly!! Fear not! They can be fixed if you are handy with a drill! (See pictures)-----Added note: Some other reviewers have complained about a loud rushing noise through the new vents. I myself have not experience this even after running my AC and now heater these past 4 months!

About what you would expect in a quality air filter grill and at a good price point. Sturdy, nice paint, no whistles, and simple to install (although I recommend a helper for ceiling installs!!). Even came with a filter (despite the big package lettering "no filter included". My only complaint is the sheet metal screws included for mounting have large (nut driver) heads that protrude and make installing a new filter more trouble than it should be - so buy some flat head screws to install.

Wow! A breeze to install. Fits and looks great. Doesn’t feel like the cheap one that was installed when the house was built. There were cheaper ones for sale but remember the adage “you get what you pay for.” A very happy customer.
