Ice cracker
Ok I do not use as intended. I like to break up ice to eat. It is perfect! Cracks ice perfectly! I imagine it does a great job on nuts as well. My daughter uses it for opening lids which it does very nicely as well! A very handily little tool! Well made. Sturdy. I like it very much and happily recommend it.

Great for Opening Bottles
This is great for opening bottles, especially Champaigne. Also works for nuts. This is my wife’s go to bottle opener.

Easy on the hands, well constructed, does the job with medium to very large nuts.
This nutcracker has a very nice handle. I've been using it for over a month now and haven't hurt my hand even once. The wood hasn't chipped or broken and seems to be going strong. The paint on the handle is a little washed out in some parts, but that's not important to me.The nutcracker does the job well enough for large nuts. Very little effort or force of strength required. It cracks the nut meat itself if you aren't careful, but you can easily learn how to avoid this to get the "perfect" nut by positioning the nut just so and learning when to stop squeezing.I knocked off a star because smaller nuts, like almonds, just fall in and sit in the bottom. You can sort of get this to chip at the smaller nuts if you hold the nut itself while it's in the nutcracker, but it won't actually open the whole thing. The nutcracker won't pinch your fingers while you do that though, so that's a relief.I did try to use the nutcracker on a bottle cap out of curiosity. I didn't expect it to work on that, but it opened the bottle up easy peasy! Neat little bonus. All in all a very good nutcracker. This is very sturdy. I don't see this thing breaking any time soon, but I would reorder it if I did lose it or something.

Whole Nuts on EVERY Try!
So I bought this thinking that if it didn't work, I could always get the cheaper crackers/picks that my family has used for all my life (and long before). I tried it on the entire mixed bag of nuts - Pecans, Walnuts, Almonds, Brazil Nuts, and Hazelnuts. Well...I can say that I didn't need any picks or other crackers as the nuts all came out whole with this one. My 8-year-old daughter was also able to easily crack all the nuts. My only complaint is that it actually makes it TOO easy to crack nuts and I(sort of?) missed all the fun of picking out the tiny pieces (but not really). But seriously, this is clearly the evil creation of the Nut Companies in an effort to make us consume more nuts - when the most difficult nuts take an average of one second to shell whole...we eat more, and therefore have to buy more! Curse you, evil(nut)doers! To add to this, I get why people would think this is flimsy - it is lightweight and doesn't feel solid like most nutcrackers. And when you put a nut in, it really doesn't feel like you've expended any effort - but then the nut pops right out of the shell before you realize it! Try it, and I bet you'll be amazed - and if not, feel free to send me the ones you don't like - even my 3-year old can use these, and we could sit around and crack nuts all night long!

Handles keep slipping off!!
2nd Review: The first time I bought this nutcracker I thought it was marvelous probably because I had only ever used the standard type. That said, about three months later, one of the wood handle covers began to slip off. It was too late to return it and not the end of the world. Fast forward to a few months ago, the springs totally broke down so I decided to purchase a new one. Within a few weeks both handles not only began to slip but keep coming totally off. I've been dealing with a lot of personal stuff and kept forgetting to deal with and when I finally checked on return/replace, the window had closed on the 24th of May. Needless, to say, I rescind my praises for this item and unfortunately will have to purchase something else!1st Review:I buy a lot of nuts and have always used the standard nut crackers - which means sometimes cracking them to the point of smithereens OR as they pointed out, having the nut fly right out of the grip and into to the air. For some reason this item caught my eye and I thought I'd give it a try. Other than the color of the handles, I love it and it works really great. I've used it with walnuts, pecans, and hazelnuts so far, and it works really well. Sometimes there is a bit of maneuvering to get the nut in the right place - but this is obviously due to differences in shape and size.
